Hi, we have just returned from our first ever trip to Fuerteventura and it's sure not be our last. This site was invaluable for research before we went and made our holiday much easier. We stayed in Corralejo and usually ended up at one of the beach bars for a few drinks, this is where we encountered the guy we called the "oily man". He was a young guy in blue bathers and blue baseball cap prancing all around the beach grinning and covered in a few gallons of sun tan oil. He seemed totally harmless but it was fun looking for him each day. Has anyone else seen him and how long has he been there for? Just curious!

Can the Man

Delighted you had a great holiday on paradise island - Fuerteventura

Sorry I don't know who your oily guy is.

Will look out for "oily man" next week when we get to the beach. Glad you enjoyed your time in Fuerte.

Jangles

Thanks, we had a great time. If the "oily man" is there you won't miss him!

Hi Jangles, I think I  know the guy you mean, he is a young guy always riding around Correlajo on a mountain bike, has done for the past two or three years. Strange but seems harmless.

I have been told that he is not all there so to speak but he touts himself as a male prostitute and i would not be surprised if he was drug dealing as well.

BoyGymFuertevent would seem to fit that description

Over the years there has been some colorful characters in Corralejo, going back maybe ten years there was a "Crazy Spear Wielding" ex hippy looking guy, he sometimes used to sit in the middle of the Roundabout down from the Clock Tower, often wonder what happened to him. I once seen him jump on a Sand Sculpture the artist had just finished, causing lots of mayhem.

He seems to have been around Corralejo as long as I have, and that's a year and a week. He's often preening himself on street corners or walking up and down in front of the bars and cafes. Yesterday, he spent a lot of time wading around in the very shallow bay off Hoplaco, apparently doing nothing much. Seems harmless enough, but definitely odd.

If he spends his days on the beaches and paddling off hoplaco, with the occasional bike ride around Corrie......... I wish I was odd ;D Paddster don't answer that ;D

Ivemovedon

odd but harmless till the lights go out and he strolls into a place with a kalashnikov...

You may want to act "odd" like him, Ronnie, but I'm sure you wouldn't want to look as odd as he does!  ;D

As with Sheila above, we've lived here for just over a year and have seen him since we moved here. Always sunning himself on the rocks by Galera Beach or paddling in the sea, or riding around on his bike. Saw him on his bike up by Baku a few days ago. I've heard the same that he's not 'all there'. I've also seen him at the Atlantico Centre, outside Flicks. He's famous haha!

Thanks for your replies, very helpful! Is it OK to put up a photo if I obscure his face?

Blueboy7

Somebody should explain to him that if his intention is to catch peoples attention, its working. Apart from his suggested Rent Buy activities, drug dealing, potential as a Terrorist not forgetting his Care in the Community qualities (Brits have great imaginations and are a really lovable nation, no wonder the Spanish welcomed us with open arms), he could work as a Billboard tout, great opportunity.

mrd owl

saw him when we were there in april.every night between 6-7pm  on the corner opposite la tasca..arms behind his back prancing about and gleaming like a good un.saw him the odd time later on around flicks bar etc..bit weird but seemed harmless enough.

He's Morrocan by all accounts and he's a drug dealer, he offered drugs to my daughter and her boyfriend outside FLICKS one night. Dodgy geezer they spotted him a few times at Waikiki beach paddling in the sea and was with an accomplice hand signalling him on the beach. Very iffy!!! I would not be surprised if he was a rent boy also.

Yes, he looks possibly Moroccan and rent boy wouldn't surprise me. But drug dealing puts him in an entirely different light in my view. No longer "oily man" but "nasty greasy man" >:(

I saw him today Mooning outside what used to be Bubbles Bar, he had the letter "W" tattooed onto each cheek of his backside, it took me a while to understand what that was all about, I shouted "Hey You" what do you think your doing, he quickly pulled his pants up and strolled over, his evil little body shimmering in the Sunlight, he said "Do you realise who your talking to", I said no, who, he said "I'm the illegitimate Moroccan son of "Kenneth Knoy", you can call me "Obama", he then said, "Do you want to buy a gun", I said not at the moment, I said a little Coke or Skunk if that's OK, he said no, have you not heard my suppliers have just been locked up "El Guardia", that's a shame I said. I then explained to him he had become a celebrity amongst the Brits and put my arm around him and squeezed, I'm not joking, he seemed to slip like a pea out of a pod and finished up on the other side of the road, he raced back over the road and in a loud squeaky voice explained the reason he uses so much Sun Oil, if he is collared by the law he can give them the slip. Mystery solved.

Ivemovedon

sounds like he needs to be locked up for his and everyone elses safety.
