It's really. Really windy here in Tuineje! The worst winds I've experienced for 4 years. Very Scary! The gust of winds must be almost hurricane force! Spent two hours trying to secure my poor horse's stables roof down, as it literally lifted. So a restless night for me tonight I think.
Just hope it all calms down soon and not too much damage for all the Canary Islands.
My husband just told me it's now just starting to rain as well.

Tried to upload a photo of the sea at El Cotillo. How do you do this? Thanks for any help in advance.

Hi Fuertesol, if you open a free account with Photobucket...link here.... http://beta.photobucket.com/ and upload the photo you can simply copy and paste it onto the Forum by selecting the option which has IMG next to it.

La Palma recorded gusts of 206km per hour, way beyond hurricane strength. La Palma airport is closed and some other airports are expected to follow suit. Several flights have been cancelled.

One of my friends on Facebook said that the tiles are blowing off his roof in Caleta.

Just been standing on the roof terrace in my oil skins enjoying the sound of pitter pattering on the hood and looking at the lights of the town through a haze of rain. Wind's dropped right off and lovely to see and experience. Brings back fond memories of holidays in Cornwall.

Also shown me that the roof does indeed leak.....

Im reading all of the reports here because I am wondering about my roof and how it will survive. It is about three years now since it has been painted. Its a pity that they are not built to withstand heavy rain.

My bedroom window doesn't close properly, so I spent about 20 minutes mopping up a giant puddle that had made it's way half way across the room  :o

The Canarian Government have issued an advice sheet for those affected by the hurricane. (Translated by Google)

Champlain Girl

Is the airport operating? I think the Lanzarote airport may have been closed?

Champlain

I dont know if it is or not Champlain girl.

La Provincia .es article translated by Google.

The wind causes the release of the roof of a school in Morro Jable

The town of Morro Jable, south of Fuerteventura is, so far, the most affected by the storm of wind and rain, which caused the detachment of the roof in Jandía Secondary School, which was forced to suspend classes for security reasons.

In the rest of the island there have been minor damage on roads and in the tents that were being installed to host the Carnival events in the towns of Morro Jable and Corralejo, in the latter also been some flooding in homes.

Airport is fine and it's a lovely day now but more wind and rain later. Not so bad though.

Thats good Truncheon Meat. :)

Another article here which mentions the cancelled flights. I cant see anything about Lanzarote airport being closed in the news so far Champlain girl. :)

Lanzarote and Fuerteventura continue on yellow alert.

Captain Sensible

Bright and windy in Caleta this morning.  Minor damage and flooding from what I saw on the way to work this morning.

More rain is forecast for betweem 4pm-8pm today.

Back to normal by lunchtime tomorrow :)

We have three windows that shut really tightly. The only problem is that there seems to be a major shipping lane between the wall and the window frame - the rain comes in by the bucket-load and disappears into kitchen drawers and under the hallway and bathroom cupboards. Ours is a really well-built house, but they simply didn't bother to make it watertight. :(

There are many, many fences down around Corralejo this morning, and there was obviously some flooding but most has disappeared now. Thankfully, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of structural damage anywhere. I saw them working on the carnival area just a few days back so they'll be well upset if that's all been destroyed. Not much time for repairs before Friday.

wind of yesterday :) Plumes of spray were beautiful.
on the downside, looks like a strong gust of wind drove some sand into zoom mechanism of my most useful lens ;(

FuerteMakesMeHappy

To quote lady who runs the pool-side bar this morning "catastrophe" Current weather in normally reliable Fuerte is atrocious. Torrential rain and gusts of wind managed to flood bedroom of our apartment last night. This morning was OK, but now more wind and rain, although less severe than last night. On plus side we've both got man-flu, so would not be doing much anyway. Roll on Sun!

Someone from one of the Ayuntamientos in Tenerife posted it on Facebook Tamara with the heading Borrasca sobre Canarias....(Storm over the Canaries)

A far less dramatic photo, but an amusing result of the weather we've been having:
