Hi Waggy, Binter airlines operate between the Islands. I had a quick look and it looks like you may have to fly from Fuerte to Tenerife and change then for your flight onwards to La Palma. Islas airways are not serving the Islands at the moment. https://www.bintercanarias.com/eng/book/select-a-flight

Just in case you are looking for a residents discount  and have not heard about the change of rules....there is a new certificate that is required since 1st September which is issued by the Ayuntamiento inorder to obtain the discount. The name on mine is Certificado de residencia but I have heard other people refer to it as Empadronamiento para viaje. (is that how you spell it? :) )The old documentation is no longer good enough to get the discount.

Thanks very much for the info. Fifi. Didn't realise there was only Binter left.
We're flying from UK actually and want as few stops as possible. Since Liverpool is our nearest airport I thought a flight to Fuerte and then on to La Palma would be quickest but it looks as though it'll have to be L'pool or, more likely, Manc'r to Tenerife Nort if we can get one and then on to La P.
Does anyone know whether one can just turn up at, say, Tenerife and then buy a Binter ticket to another island or do you have to book in advance?

fifi

Hi Waggy, according to their website they have a sales office in Tenerife North Airport where tickets can be purchased. https://www.bintercanarias.com/eng/information/where-to-buy

That's fantastic, thanks, Fifi. I didn't realise there were so many daily flights. And the return fare is quite reasonable too.

TamaraEnLaPlaya

I wouldn't leave your ticket purchase until you are at the airport - I've recently travelled (after Islas stopped operating) on 2 Binter flights where the aeroplane was full. However, these were different routes than you are looking for so you may be lucky  ;D

a question for you fifi.my daughter and son-in-law are going to tenerife next saturday for a week and have free accomodation.we go to fuerte the week after.so i was thinking of having a week with them then flying from tenerife to fuerteventura.when i go onto binters site to look for luggage allowance i can,t complete the booking form because it keeps asking for a spanish ID number, even though i have put in i,m a non-resident.do you know what the luggage allowance is,and how do i get round the ID number problem.its not urgent to find out,as i,m not 100% sure i,m going yet,but i,m just looking at the feasability of it all.thanks.denboy

chinahand

was at fue airport over weekend .......plenty of ryanair aircraft around , parked on apron and taking off/landing when there wetre no scheduled movements for FR aircraft .....replacing islas in the future ?

Deso

I don't think 189 seat 737's would be viable on island hopping routes.  :D
Regards, Neil
Looking forward to the day I tick the "One way only" box when booking flights to Fuerte. [:)]

chinahand

Hello Denboy
The normal allowance with Binter is 20kg checked luggage (1 bag) and carry-on of 6kg. If you go on their site and straight to 'Help' you should find all the detail re measurements etc. I don't have the same problem with ID number (pretending to be non-res) so perhaps you just hit a gremlin - try again? Good luck.

denboy

thanks for that tamara.unfortunately doesn,t look like i can do tenerife as well.oh well 2 weeks in caleta is a great consolation.thanks anyway, the info might come in handy in future.

waggy

Does anyone know what 'tarifa mas' refers to on the Binter flight pricing? Is it an extra tariff or airport tax or something?

fifi

Hi Waggy, I just had a quick look and it appears to be some kind of a loyalty scheme.... https://www.bintercanarias.com/eng/bintermas/about

waggy

Phew! Thanks for that Fifi; for a horrible moment I thought you had to add it to the fares given in the time-tables.
Can you confirm that if you want to fly, say, Fuerte to La Palma, say, you would have to go F>Tene Norte and there get a connection to LP (SPC).  It seems to me that TFN is the hub of a radial connection system and that if you're island hopping you have to go from your departure island to TFN and get a flight out from there to your destination island.
There don't seem to be any direct inter-island flights other than TFN to anywhere else.

I think you need to go to Tenerife first Waggy. I sent off a quick email to them to see if there are any direct flights. I had a look at a few dates and they were all via Tenerife even using Skyscanners. Hopefully they will reply.

Worth a browse... :) http://www.turismodecanarias.com/canary-islands-spain/tourist-guide/best-destinations/index.html

La Palma looks incredibly beautiful in the photos.  :)

fifi

Hi Waggy....no direct flights im afraid. Binter have just confirmed by email.

Dear Binter client,

We inform you that at this moment there is no scheduled direct flights from Fuerteventura to La Palma.

Once you introduce the origin and destiny of your flight and an aproximated date you would like to flight, the system will inform you the days that Binter Canarias does that journey and possible available times.

We hope this information has helped you.

Regards,

waggy

Hi Fifi, you are a star.
You're right, it is beautiful but there's a lot of stuff grown under acres of plastic these days (Google Earth it) and there are only a few black beaches. Balance that with the lush tropical vegetation and the , as yet, lack of development and stunning elevated views and it's really gorgeous.
Heigh ho! I'm currently looking at the possibility of flying from Manchester or Liverpool to a mainland Spanish airport and then hopefully direct to La Palma from there. The Devil's in the timing though so far.

fifi

Welcome. :) I would like to visit it myself sometime. It looks like a photographers dream. Good idea....I will Google earth it. :)

Is it La Palma that has the little airport on top of a mountain Waggy?

Back again. :) I love looking things up on the net so did a bit of digging for you Waggy. Im not sure when you want to go but Ryanair have some really good prices to Tenerife SOUTH from Manchester ie. £48 one way 21st November (mid to late afternoon arrival times)
Ryanairs Liverpool /Tenerife South has pretty good prices too (Thursdays and Saturday flights) arrival time 10.30 am allowing plenty of time for further travel......so possibly one of the cheaper ways of getting there perhaps? Good prices and an early arrival time with Easyjet too from Manchester (11.30am)

It is possible to get a bus from one airport to the other or maybe car hire?....and then off you go on Binter. :) :) :) :)

Some of the Skyscanners are showing crazy prices and durations.

Bus information here.... http://www.tripadvisor.com/Travel-g187479-c65708/Tenerife:Spain:Bus.Timetable.North.To.South.Airport.html

waggy

I think I've got it cracked, Fifi.
Manchester to Gran Can. and then on to La Palma. Cost: £600 return for 2 but civilised flying hours, shorter Binter flights AND I get to ride low over a beautiful island in a beautiful prop-driven job. Plus, and this is the best bit, we stay in a self catering dream on the waterside in unspoilt El Remo next to possibly the best fishing in the Canaries, within 40 metres of the front door.
Thanks for all your help with the time-tables, etc.

No, I think it's Madeira you're thinking of or perhaps Kathmandu, Nepal.

fifi

Thats great Waggy. Glad you got it sorted. Not a bad price either considering all of the travel involved. El Remo sounds fabulous. Enjoy. :)

waggy

Thanks, Fifi.
One thing I did notice that looked a little mysterious was that some of the Binter inter-island connections take 10 hours plus for a short flight. What's that, an overnight stopover or do you just keep landing and taking off for the hell of it?

fifi

Hi Waggy, the Las Palmas /La Palma only takes 50 minutes.

I had a look at their website at some flights that need a connecting flight.  When  searching , the first options that are coming up (for me anyway) are the flights that have the shortest journey time. They are under the heading "Connecting flights (ordered according to the flight duration) " If you dont like any of those you can click on "More connecting flights options ". Some of those have a longer total journey duration.

Is that what you mean?

waggy

Thanks for all the help, Fifi. Now all we've got to do is decide whether we can run to £1800-2000 for a 9-10 day holiday for two on LA Palma or come back to good old Fuerte again.

Gosh that seems very expensive Waggy. Have you looked into the option of package deals? Not sure when you intend to travel but some of the winter package  holidays from Manchester to La Palma including accommodation are from £218 per person for a week self catering. http://www.holidayhypermarket.co.uk/resultsv2?t=1&departureDate=30/11/2012&adults=2&duration=7&destinationId=140&profileID=1&deptAir=MAN&children=0&ref=resultsv2&searchID=99e617c7-8b00-4869-b014-9ece7f7e444e#CAL

It might be worth looking into. :)

waggy

Thanks, Fifi, I'll look into it.
We usually go to El Cotillo in small to medium self catering with the place itself being the main source of enjoyment . Lately though El Cotillo has the aspect of being ruined, as with other scenic places we remember, by over-development. It was a great, intimate little place and then they started with the large, empty, soul-less appt blocks and now with the soul-less 'World tourist' hotel monstrosities.
Just when they manage to get rid of the the threatened mega-devmpt. North of EC, where the infra-structure is in but now it's being left to Nature, they allow these rubbishy, bland hotels in to infill spaces best left to Nature.
So we thought we'd try La Palma instead - it looks virtually Chavsville free still and remains like the Canaries I see in a book From the 1960s-70s with lots of Native charm, like Betancuria still is.
