Be careful with your dogs.

In news media,
Sausages with nails in them are being distributed throughout the island. Several dogs have been injured or died as a result.

Seems to have started in El Charco, in Puerto del Rosario.

Poisoning animals is a fairly common thing in Canaries. People are very nonchalant about it.
The view is that if police won't help to resolve an issue with dogs/cats, you sort the problem yourself.
Hence, nails in meat.

We were only chatting yesterday as to the reason why lots of cats have disappeared from our area. Most likely its people away on hols who didn't bother to leave food and water. It's so easy to go to the animal shelter every 3 months and get a new one! Strong and healthy when they arrive at new home. Dead 3 months later. Nasty majoreros.

Just keep your dog on a leash, like you are supposed to.

Think about it Calculator, why would any sane or insane person drive the full length of Fuerteventura with a car full of sausages with nails in them and spread them about from town to town??????
its plain crazy, makes no sense. More likely one sad incident, carried out by one sad individual with a noisy dog living next door. The average Spanish people love their dogs as much as the English,
its pure myth that they are a cruel bunch of dog haters. In fact the cruel incidents I remember in my time on the island were mainly carried out by the Ex Pats who left their dogs loose rather than pay
the crazy cost of flying/driving the dog back to the UK. The dog Hell Hole in La Oliva was full of them.

In all of the time I was living and visiting the Island, and owning dogs on the Island, and meeting many Spanish Dog owners and living next to Spanish Dog owners, I did not see any cruelty. I did not read of any cruelty to dogs in any of the local press. You would be stupid (like yourself) to think cruelty does not go on, as it does in the UK, but even someone like yourself Brightfart must agree it is highly improbable someone is going from one end of the Island to the other end of the Island throwing nailed sausages out of the window.

Me too. I have blocked six posters and it has transformed the forum for me. I may be missing the occasional good post but it doesn't really matter. I would encourage others to do the same.
