I noticed this morning, they have started the groundwork for this, looks as if they are going to extend across what is currently the car park. I will be amazed if it opens in 2018 as suggested.

I saw surveyors on the vacant site next to the IKEA car park two days ago.

I spoke to a member of staff last week.  I was told that it is not going to be a store but just a larger Pick Up Point.  :(

That would be a pity. It was portrayed as a “normal” ie, full layout store. Can`t see it being this year whatever. One of the staff told me late last year they thought “a couple of years”

That may be, but they have taped off a hell of a large area for a pickup point.

4,200 is actually very small for an Ikea store.  They average is 27,000 sq meters and range generally from 20,000 to 40,000.  They are opening a range of mini stores of 2,000 to 4,000 square meters (no cafe...no meatballs) so it might be that concept they are rolling out.

An Ikea still needs quite a bit of space, even without meatballs. ;D

I have wondered what the warehouse must look like inside because it seems tiny for what I assume is brisk business they must enjoy from people in Fuerteventura. I would imagine it is far more likely that they are going to expand the display area a little, and keep a small stock of the popular items, basically operating something like Argos.

I remember visiting a couple of Ikeas in the UK and verging on a panic attack because those huge metal sheds just seem to go on forever with no end in site. They wouldn't fit one of those in that existing industrial estate. What about Ikea Lanzarote, anyone know what that is like in size compared to the UK?

Google Earth has a measuring tool.  I reckon that the Lanzarote shop is approximately 100M x 50M.  It`s on 2 floors, so the total area is about 10,000 square metres.  This excludes the car park.
