Does Anyone know the difference in costs if you switch your status from None Resident to Resident.. Ie The yearly tax return etc...

I was also pondering this one Chris.

You need to take advice from a Tax expert as it depends on your income, pensions etc.

I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong, that the personal allowance is a lot less in Spain although you can use half of your spouses as well if they don't have any income.
I have a figure in my head of â,¬5500, compared to £11000 in the UK

Looking forward to the day I tick the "One way only" box when booking flights to Fuerte. [:)]

...and if you are resident in Spain you have to declare your worldwide assets, and this may be taxable too.

I suppose then its safe to assume if you have no income and you are just living on your savings that is here, no pension yet. The only income is the interest from the money that's here - The the only tax payable would be on the interest??

Seems about right Chris. There is a guide here....

The thing is, everyone's case is different so you need to get the right info for you.

Which begs another question.

Anyone know a good tax expert who doesn't charge an arm and a leg for their advice?   :D

We've just been through the same thought process, and took advice from a very good tax assesor, Antonio Garcia (antoniotaxadvisor@gmail.com).  as has been said here, everybodys' circumstances are slightly different. In my case, with a private pension and a state pension from UK, I would pay approx 16% on totall income (more than twice what I pay being taxed in the UK).
On the plus side, you would pay much less inheritence tax than a non-tax resident.
I can recommend Antonio - speaks perfect English, and a thoroughly nice guy too. He also organised our Spanish Wills - a MUST DO if you live here permanently. good luck
