Come on, let's get down to the Nitty Gritty (excuse the pun). It's a DISGRACE.

As the sand was dredged from an area where sewage was dumped for years, we don't even know if it's a health hazzard or not. Time will tell.

The beach is fine. At least it wont flood at high tide like the previous one. The sand is a million years in the making from fossils and shells and feels great to sit and walk on and the kids seem to love it..There beaches all over the world just the same. As for being a health hazard just silly comments.

You must know something the Environment people don't know.

Never listen to the Scientists the world is meant to have ended by now. I have not seen many sick people coming off the beach and as for the smell. It smells of sea and salt like any other beach.

Just been watching the Beach Volleyball tournament, wow these guys are good. A great set up and they have brought in soft sand as is required for these tournaments. Well worth a visit.

Captain Sensible

I was down there this afternoon too.  The International Beach Volleyball continues tonight, and again tomorrow afternoon and evening until 11pm - they have floodlights, a couple of bars, seating and an inflatable pool for children.  Jose is providing a commentary in Spanish and English.

Went for a walk on the beach this week, it looks lovely but must say I dont find the sand too nice and there was alot of rocks which looked more like building rubble over by the harbour end . Think I prefer the section by the Atlantico now though

I am not convinced this is the case, from our place we have an excellent view of the entire bay including the beach, and all the weeks the mountains of that grey stuff[call it sand if you want] was being piled on the beach, there was a dredger working out side the main beach, and as soon as they finished piling it there the dredger returned from whence it came??? I personally do not believe in coincidences!

Captain Sensible

John, the sand was brought by the dredger as you call it from Puerto del Rosario.  I was pumped aboard the ship at the cruise dock in the capital, brought to Caleta and then pumped ashore.  The same process was used to enlarge the Playa de Los Pozos Beach in Puerto del Rosario.  Both beaches have the same sand.

I will bow to your greater knowledge, but sill think it was a hell of a coincidence

Captain Sensible

What is the coincidence?

Fairly obvious they were dredging off the beach in Caleta at the same time as they were piling "sand" on the beach.

Captain Sensible

It was brought in from Puerto - I've got an email from the Ayuntamiento saying what was happening; we were on the beach last Summer and saw what was happening; and I also saw what happened in Puerto.  There was no dredger off the beach in Caleta - it was a ship laden with sand from the cruise ship dock in Puerto, that kept coming backwards and forwards, night and day.

OK as i said I will bow to your greater knowledge, what you are saying is it was dredging the Cruise dock in Rosario and dumping it off the beach in Caleta?

The new sand is very poor and not a patch on the stuff by Atlantico. Hopefully they will sort it, but if not then people can go to Atlantico or further afield.

OK I was genuinely  interested in what was going on,any idea why it was accompanied virtually constantly by a tug? which had previously been working in Argentina.

It is a Beach. A place you put your towel down have a swim and enjoy the sea and sun. The sand from were it has come from is meaningless .Happy Days.

zedzedeleven

Not if it at best stinks and at worst presents a health hazard , had enough of that back in the day when it was ok for water companies to allow untreated sewage to pollute our recreational areas.
Mentor to the boneheads.

Captain Sensible

For those that haven't been to the beach, I can assure you that it doesn't smell.

As previous posters have said, it is different from before and the sand is coarser and a different colour.  It has got a lot of shells and small rocks in it, as it has come from the sea bed.

Villan

I concur with Captain that it does not smell and appears to have lightened since it has been spread.

MandK

Think it looks great, for a town beach its impressive .  I think we need the beer bike back to give the moaners something to bite on....

::) ::) ::) ::) ::) PLEASE NO

Captain Sensible

3 areas of trees have been planted at the back of the beach - one lot in front of the Barcelo Hotel, one near the bar on the beach, and one in front of the Barcelo Sports courts.

I hope they've got a good watering system in place.
