Hi all

We have looked at this site in Horizonte.a couple of times over the last 3 years.

It always seemed like a A shanti town with squatter's at one end of the site.

We were told it was going to be cleaned up and refurbished over the next year or two.

Recently we have noticed several property's have come on to the market,we are looking for a weekend retreat.can any one give us an honest opinion of the current situation there.

Would it be too big a risk to buy there at this moment in time ???

Thanks in advance. ::)

Nine years ago they were saying it was going to be refurbished also. You would be better renting somewhere for your week ends in my opinion. I think from memory that the Community fees are quite high there too. You would also have to pay non rental tax, Basuras, IBI, Insurance, Solicitors fees....and for what? a place that you would be afraid to live in?
At times it looks like there are families living on balconies there because there are sofas, wardrobes etc on them. I would not feel safe there personally.

What looks like a bargain seldom is. If you are thinking of buying an apartment you need to check out the accounts of the Community because when you buy you are also becoming a part of that Community and will foot the costs of any repairs  to the Complex.

Best avoid. It is known as the worst complex on the Island. Sorry.

Is this known by another name ? I don't recognise it

Do you think my opinion is fair and accurate Annette (Woodside)?

I dont want to put anyone off the Island but I do want to let them know the costs involved and the risks.

Hope all is well with you all.

I know which one now. We had a look at them & decided it was too much work even at the cheap price. Being one of the old complexes I would think there may be a lot of issues with plumbing, electrics etc. As well as the fact the pool will never be reinstated IMO

Hi Fifi,
Yes, in my opinion you are spot on.  This complex has been gradually going downhill for the last 13 years that I know of... real shame as there has been talk over the years of a complete refurb but until the residents (many squatters included) are re-housed (impossible I would think) then it will remain the biggest eyesore in Nuevo Horizonte.
The pool would, by now, not be possible to put right (it has been green for as long as I can remember)!  That is without mega euros being forked out on it.
All good for us Fifi, thank you... hope alls going well for you too!

Thank you all for the honest replies, it is pretty much what we were expecting, and saves us the potential hassles as pointed out.
We are still looking to buy a small place in Neuvo Horizonte and will be looking next week on the Amaya and Vista Mar sites, as well as a couple of others
Unless anyone has horror stories of either of those sites  :)
Mind you we are actually staying in Lanzarote so has anyone any idea of the taxi fare from Corralejo?
Or know of any private hire company travelling from Corralejo to Caleta?

Best Regards

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm sure Vista Mar is Fuerte Prks new name, how exactly the complex is now but for the last 1 - 2 yrs there seemed to be quite a bit of work going on, i remember at one time there was talk of splitting it into two, whether it ever was ?

Fuerteventura park is now called Miramar. It looks a lot better now than it did a few years ago and there always seems to be work being carried out. The pool will need a fair bit of money spent on it to repair it but it has the making of a really good complex.

I did a fair bit of work on 3 apartments on Fuerteventura park back in the day, these were bank repossessions that needed cleaning out before being handed back, I found it incredible how the complex was actually still standing considering the amount of damage.
The walls on these apartments were so damp that you could literally gouge out the masonry with your fingers.
And as Fifi says it was a shanti town.
Not sure what it's like now, I'm going back about 7-8 years but it always struck me as a shame as the apartments themselves have huge potential.

yes i realised i got it's new name wrong, ( old age yer know ) it is Miramar, i know the garden area's are looking pretty well looked after these day's, so look's like someone has took the complex on, let's hope they get it right.

I had a look round this morning and the pool has been used as a builders rubble landfill site,as for the properties themselves some looked quite well maintained whilst others not so and I think there was more window/door bars than a prison will have.
