I will be visiting in October for 2 weeks staying near Corralejo and looking for information on the fishing (not boat) in the area. Will be bringing a spinning rod and beachcaster. Any suggestions of marks and species would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

The link above outlines the need for a license. Please be aware that the police can and do confiscate your fishing equipment if you are fishing without a license.

I've often thought about going beach fishing at El Cotillo but cant be bothered with all the red tape buying a license.

Do you really need a certificate to sea fish, I see many people going it just outside our apartment?

Yes and the stupid thing is you cannot buy a licence at the local fishing tackle/bait shop.  :o

That link also tells how to obtain a licence online, so it isn't difficult to get one. Controls are getting stricter so there's more chance of being done if you don't have one.

There are also strict rules on what you can take out of the sea. The whole island is a UNESCO Biosphere protected area as there are many endangered species of flora and fauna here. Many fishermen have used the black crabs as bait; so sad as they're only found on Fuerteventura and they're endangered.
