I have been coming over to Caleta for the last 22yrs normally a week in July then a week in the middle of Sept but because of health issues this year it was going to be just a week in Sept but all the apartments I have stayed at in the past are showing no vacancies looks like the troubles in other hot spots is doing the Canary's a big favour

Flight prices are a lot higher than past years as well.   :(

Yes property prices are increasing fast in line with demand.
If thinking of buying do not wait.

As it is illegal to rent out properties in tourist areas for short term holiday lets at the present time, this is the main reason for lack of holiday accommodation, whether they are licenced or not.

North Africa is closed, Turkey is 25% down on tourist numbers. Where do you go within four hours of the UK for an early / late holiday? We've run out of rooms full stop. A few private villas on the golf ain't going to make much difference

Not the Canaries if they've got no rooms.

First rule of business i ever learned was to take advantage of any competitors short comings. Stopping private holiday rentals in tourist areas is hardly doing that. But then it will only take a few boats of African refugees turning up on Caleta beach or a terrorist outrage at the airport to put them back on a level pegging with everyone else.

They think it won't happen,..... they probably thought that in Sharm El Sheik and Tunisia.

Yes, it is called shooting yourself in the foot, or cutting off nose to spite your face! Unbelievable!

Ivemovedon

Too true

Another rule of business that i found out the hard way was never take your customers for granted. They can, and always will look elsewhere if you get complacent and can't provide the standard of service required. There are always other destinations ready to step in if Spain gets a little too high and mighty, such as the new visitor surcharge on tourists to Majorca now being implemented. Happy days for Spain and it's islands at the moment but as i said it will only take one incident and a matter of seconds to change it all. They would do well to get the rental situation sorted to everyone's satisfaction asap.. for when the highly possible leaner times roll in.

Flights are a little scarce as well it would appear, about 3 weeks ago a friend of mine had to return to the UK for his Mother in laws funeral, with his wife and daughter, and ended up having to go via Tenerife and Madrid
