For some time I have been receiving bills from Endesa every two months, paid by direct debit.
However, having received a bill dated 26.01.16 (for the previous 2 months), I have had a subsequent (and much smaller!) bill covering the period 25.01.16 to 12.02.16. Does this mean that Endesa will be billing customers every month?

Have you checked if they have changed your meter? They are in the process of replacing old meters with new ones that communicate their readings directly, so they can bill you every month. A few years ago they were banned from using estimates, so moved to 2 monthly bills to reduce meter reading charges. I think they are just  over half way through replacing all meters.

I haven't checked as I'm in the UK at the moment, but that might make sense.

I had a similar bill for the same date that I was not expecting, it was estimated.
Over the 5 years they seem to switch between monthly and two monthly billing.
So it could be that they are switching to monthly billing again which alternates between an estimated bill one month and an actual reading the following month.
We had our metre changed about three years ago so don't think it is that.
