I am researching internet/tv packages ahead of our move to Fuerte in April. Our property has no existing landline and we will be looking to use the internet a fair bit each day and will want to watch the basic uk tv channels, we wont want any sky channels, video on demand etc.....So I am interested to hear experiences re an internet provider, I have heard that Movistar are the main provider but are a bit number two? thinking we will go with an android box for the tv stuff we want.....??
TIA

I think the first job is to make sure you can get a landline installed and take it from there.

You normally only find out how good a provider is, if you have problems. We had a landline connection into the apartment but it was not live. Went into Movistar shop on Tuesday and ordered installation, guy came on Friday, pulled a new cable in to the socket and connected up, no problem at all. We get 17meg connection and it has always been reliable.

We have a house on the golf course and the house has sockets for a telephone. If I have Telefonica do I have to have a phone line installed (don't really need a phone) or can I just have internet? Also how much does it cost to install and monthly cost. Thank you

Deso

You need the phone line to get broadband. Installation is free and you get free spanish landline calls. You will get up to 20 meg download speed, subject to distance from exchange, and you get a free sim which will give you 200 mins local landline and mobile calls and 2 Gb of data.

Cost in the Canaries is â,¬44.15 a month, it has just gone up slightly.

You can use google translate to give you the English version.

Thanks Deso. How do I contact Telefonica in English to get a phone and broadband installed?

You've got me there Glenys.  :D  I went to the Movistar shop in Atlantico but that has now closed I believe.
There is a Movistar shop in Las Rotundas, so may be worth popping in there, don't know if they have any English speaking staff though.

You need your full address, passport and NIE or Residencia.

Thank you Deso, I will try tomorrow.

You're welcome and good luck.  Take your mobile as well so you can show them which size of sim card you need.   :)

English support - dial 1004 from a Spanish mobile or landline - when the talking stops say ENGLISH, you may have to do this a few times until you get through.
Once you have done this the first time you will automatically get answered in English on any future occasion you dial 1004 from that phone number.

Called into the Movistar shop in Rotandas today with all our paperwork. We spoke to a very helpful Spanish girl whose english was quite good. Everything went well until she asked for our bank account number doh, I hadn't taken any......So back tomorrow to finish off. Thank you for your help.

That's the only problem with these people, they want your money.   :D  But at least it's looking good now.
