Encryted Smart DNS

For those using Smart DNS tools to switch Netflix regions or report yourself as being 'in the UK', you'll possibly have found that Netflx is now sometimes detecting that you are connecting through a proxy or DNS service and refusing your connection.

Netflix claim that blocking such connections from anywhere other than your actual geo-location is something that is going to be used permanently in order to protect the territory-specific licensing deals they have in place with their content providers.

So what then?

The beauty of digital technology is that there is invariably someone smart enough to put together some new code to counter these counters.

So the next generation of Smart DNS is going to be encryted to stop such detection by Netflix and avoid the subsequent service refusal.

One such encrypted service is already available from VyprVPN, details of how it works are here: https://www.goldenfrog.com/vyprvpn/chameleon

I've not tried the above, as I'm currently waiting to see how my current Smart DNS service, Unblock Us, is going to tackle and circumvent the Netflix policy change.

I'm assuming other Smart DNS services that are similarly suffering from Netflix detection will also be upgrading their services to include such encryption - they'll pretty much have to, or else their service becomes largely worthless.

Update: I've stopped using UnblockUs altogether, as it is being detected and blocked by Netflix far too regularly.
Currently I am using Getflix, and so far it never been detected or blocked, so I'm again getting full unrestricted access to every Netflix region.
Details at www.getflix.com.au
Getflix is also less than half the price of UnblockUs
