DOG BEACHES. With reference to the article in the latest Fuertextra

Dog Beaches, and I use the term loosely. So, out of the kindness of their hearts, these Dog-Hating Councillors have agreed to allocate certain "Beaches" for Dog-Owners to excercise there pets, and, at the same time, themselves.
I don't know about the other "Beaches", but the one allocated in El Matorral is a DISGUSTING JOKE.

Barranco La Muley is at the take-off end of the Airport. THERE IS NO BEACH, just large, slimey and dangerous to walk on rocks,  and big waves. Impossible to go into the sea with your dog, let alone let it swim by itself. When the tide is out, there are pools left with slimey "black gunge", which is almost impossible to wash from your dogs feet, should he walk in it.

Come on now, there is a small sandy beach further up that NOBODY hardly ever goes on, unknown to tourists, Where I use to take my dog for a swim.
What's wrong with allowing your dog to run on this beach at certain hours of the day, say before 11.00 in the morning.
You're allowed to walk a dog down a main street in town, but not on a deserted beach. It doesn't make sense to me.

People spoil things for other people - I.e. By not cleaning up after their dog.
The police could make a fortune if they enforced the laws surrounding dogs not on leads, how many on a lead, fouling etc. Many pavements are disgusting with dog poops all along them.  It is good to see many people with poop bags but not enough people either carry or use them and the ones that don't, as said spoil it for the other people and their dogs.
Right opposite Guardia civil and on the grass of campanerio which is also alongside Guardia civil you often see people letting their dogs off the lead and fouling - guess the Guardia civil are too busy working to look out the windows or to phone the local police.  Think the English are probably the most responsible here re cleaning up after their dogs.

Just come to Morro Jable. The locals let their dogs off the lead and take them on the beach. They even do it right in front of the police!

Yes, it's truly awful, Archer. The last time we were there we discovered that the part of the port bank-side least used by boats was most used by idle dog owners. Some of them didn't even get out of the car. It's the most dog-s*it contaminated area I've seen in my life; literally! I'm amazed that the pooches can find even 1cm sq available to do it on. The local authorities there could make oodles of dosh in fines and then charge anglers to fish in clean surroundings, given that fishing is not allowed around port facilities but that this area is totally unused by the boating fraternity and certain stretches of port-side angling  could be let for a reasonable sum per day or weekly ticket.

In all honesty dog mess should not be a matter for the police either local or Guardia. They are paid too much money to be checking up on beach or pavement deposits. There should be special council poop wallahs on 7 euros an hour doing the dirty dog beat. Have to agree with woe though if you are a careful owner and clear up behind you you should not have to suffer for the lazy bods (mainly Spanish ) who refuse to do the same.

Keeps a  few people in a job for quite a while in Fuerte,talking of dog poo the path at the back of Tamaragua which goes to the volcanoes is full of it ,cant believe they take their dogs everyday and let them sh1 t it smells disgusting and looks disgusting and yes its mostly the Spanish that let their dogs do it
do illiterate people really get the benefits of alphabet soup

Reminds me of a friend of mine who, years ago, when someone persistently let their dog poop in front of his driveway, started to scoop it up immediately afterwards in a fire shovel, follow the offender home at a discreet distance and then chuck it onto their drive as they watched. The bit that amazed me was that it took 2 goes before they got the message!

Of course there is then the issue of what to do with a bag of doggy poop - dare you pop it in the nearest wheelie bin and risk a bin fine?  :-\

Just got back from Caleta and was really surprised how much dog poo was lying around on the pavements. I've never seen it that bad before. Friends said it was mostly the Spanish to blame and a lack of bins to put the mess in.
