This an advertisment for Fuerteventuras first major musical/operatic production from the film 'La Verbena de la Paloma' which is starting Friday 01 May at Morro Jable, then 02 May at Gran Tarajal, 08 May Corralejo, and 09 May Puerto Rosario. 100 cast - big production with support from many organisations.

I thought it was probably music but I'm glad you've said it's a musical/operatic event. Saves me wasting my money thinking I was getting a rock concert .

They've had me researching the words but I can't make any real sense of them. Do you know what it actually means, if anything?

Donde Vas? Means 'Where are you?'. I think.
Look on IMDB to see details of the original film, and YouTube to watch the original Concha Velasco song version.
It looks a very extravagent production to put on locally. May be very good - some of the cast were at Feaga, last week.

Donde vas (donde vamo, colloquially, donde va) means where are you going.

A Manton is a shawl worn by Flamenco dancers and ladies at night, made of silk brought from the far east, via Manilla, Philippines, which used to be a Spanish Colony, hence, Spanish is the language there.

So literally it means "whare are you going with that Shawl from Manilla."

Finalmente, los habitantes de Fuerteventura conocen el significado de los carteles que durante algunas semanas inundaron las principales carreteras de la isla con la frase: “¿Donde vas con mantón de manila?”. Se trata de la puesta en escena de la conocida zarzuela “La Verbena de la Paloma”, que por primera vez llegará a los escenarios de Fuerteventura de la mano de la Banda Municipal de Pájara, la Coral de Pájara, y las asociaciones teatrales Bobaco y El Secreto Teatro, además del ballet Stylo.

En el salón de plenos del Cabildo de Fuerteventura se presentó en la mañana de hoy miércoles este montaje en el que colaboran los ayuntamientos de Pájara, Tuineje, La Oliva y Puerto del Rosario además de la primera institución insular. El director artístico, Javier Santos, indicó que la idea de realizar esta obra surge del exito hace cuatro años del musical “El libro animado” que fué visto por más de cuatro mil personas.

Es la primera vez que se podrá ver una zarzuela en Fuerteventura, en la que participarán en escena siete solistas, algunos de ellos provenientes de Málaga o el Teatro Real de Madrid, como Guadalupe Sánchez, Rafa Casette, Juan Carlos Varona, entre otros. El escenario corre a cargo de la empresa majorera Audioluz que, según afirma el director artístico de la obra, ha preparado un decorado espectacular que dejará a todos “con la boca abierta”.

El vestuario ha sido cedido por la Asociación Canaria de Amigos de la Zarzuela, y afirman desde la organización que “está muy logrado y es de gran elaboración”. Además de Javier Santos, participan en la dirección: Eva Torres, Sandra García, Guillermo González y Francisco Rodríguez.

Finally, the inhabitants of Fuerteventura know the meaning of the posters for some weeks flooded the main roads of the island with the phrase: "Where are you going with shawl?".
