Ceiling Light/Fans

Hi All, anyone bought any Ceiling lights/Fans, on the island if so from where and approximately how much? B&Q have some nice modern units in at the moment for between £40 & £50. And they would fit in the hand luggage. But if the prices are roughly about the same I will buy on the island.

One in hand luggage...that was interesting at security, got stopped...they were having a sweepstake to work on what on earth it was. Showed them the instruction leaflet and they had a chuckle and waved me through.
Been excellent lights and fans and look good...with one exception. In A couple of them, the light sockets are not well screwed in or threaded which means the bulbs rattle when the fans are on. So worth checking when you buy.

Start at just over 40 euros for a ceiling fan from ideal - without a light.  Believe they have a web site so you may be able to check in there first.

How high are your ceilings? Some are very high and require fans with remote controls!

Agree with Snodrop.I bought one a couple of weeks ago from Ideal for 65 Euros 3 speeds and light.It not worth the Hassel to bring them over.

Are they back in stock in Ideal? They only had fans with no lights about a month ago.

Ceiling height shouldn't be a problem Tamara. But I would probably prefer remote control.

We had to import ones with remote controls - couldn't find any here. Bought them online and then had them shipped here by Woodside.

I will look again at B&Q. I am sure they had some. I didn't pay enough attention at the time as it was just an idea. We also want something contemporary as opposed to some of the old fashioned looking ones.

Just about as useless they simply move around  the warm air more quickly

They are quieter they will free up some floor space, so based on that have got to be worth a punt for 50 quid!

W.R. Have you managed to source fans in a Fuerte or planning bringing them over ?
I'm assuming from a voltage point of view bringing from UK would be compatible.

We have found ours(the ones we bought in B & Q) excellent, much better than stand alone fans...quieter and more efficient and they don't get in the way. And because they are normally placed in the middle of the room the air is circulated evenly. It also helps to leave window open so that any coolness in the air is circulated.

Here's an interesting read about ceiling fans versus air conditioning.  We have a ceiling fan in the bedroom and find that the breeze from the fan keeps us much cooler. I am not keen on air conditioning as find it a bit extreme and seems to set off my sinuses!!!

Couple of things I've found useful in regard to ceiling fans here:

In the foyer of Mercadona they have plastic 'umbrella guards' believe it or not, a bit like giant condoms  . These are great for covering the fan blades when you are decorating! Well its not as if you are going to use them for stopping drips from wet umbrellas, is it?

Wipe the fan blades with the tissue like things that you use in a tumble dryer for giving your stuff a nice smell - it is a great anti-static treatment. If you don't have some of these you can use a lint free cloth dipped in a 50% dilution of fabric conditioner and water. If you don't do something you will soon have a prop for a Halloween movie!
