Electron have a poster on the wall to say installation is â,¬150 (?) if you buy the units from them. My neighbour used their installer from Puerto Rosario. Cheap job and functional but not the neatest pipework...just easiest routing etc.

I know Electron shops sell and offer installation of air conditioning units, we got ours done about three years ago with them. No issues, quick service. For the life of me I cant remember the cost but you buy the units from Electron and the installation is then per linear meter but this cost includes installation and pipe, pipe insulation and supply of gas. You can go and ask but I think it was 40 or 50 euros per linear meter. Do ask for a discount in Electron from the sales person as high priced items have a commision for the sales person that they can cut. I have and do ask for discount in most places on the island most smile and offer 5-10 % off but its free to ask also look out for deals where they have a three-four unit package.

Cornish Boy. Did you have any luck with aircon install? Would you, or anyone else, like to share their experience - good or bad?
I see Electron have jacked their install price to 'summer rates' @ â,¬250 per unit, now.

I`m a bit rushed for time today, but to cut a long story short here is my experience with air con.

We bought 2 air con units made by LG from Electron about 2.5 years ago. None of the staff had the expertise to advise on the best system to match the cubic volume of our rooms, so it was buy and hope.

Just over 2 years later one of them broke down. Electron gave us the telephone number of a service engineer in Lanzarote!

Someone recommend a company in Puerto del Rosario who came out and looked at it. As soon as he saw it was made by LG, he rolled his eyes and said the components are of a poor quality and the units are badly manufactured, but it was bad luck that it had failed after 2 years. Replacement parts were not available on the island and we ended having it replaced by a unit made by Fujitsu General which are allegedly more reliable. I checked this out with a friend in the UK who has good knowledge of air con and he confirmed that Fujitsu is well regarded and that LG make great TVs but their air con leaves something to be desired.

Thanks for your comments about LG. However, how is Fujitsu parts availability any different from those of LG.
There are only a few big aircon suppliers in the Canaries, inc LG and Samsung, as far as i can see.
Anyone else had breakdowns that weren't dealt with efficiently?
By the way, which part failed early, Stonefree? Was it corrosion related?

The problem was in the outdoor condenser. I don`t know which part but it was not corrosion related. The service engineer tried to find a complete replacement outdoor condenser, but LG have stopped making the model.

Regarding parts availability, perhaps Fujitsu are better on after sales service than LG. Compared to other manufacturers, LG air con components are supposedly of a low quality. Hence their poor reliability reputation.

As a general comment about Electron, they seem to source their stock from various countries. Quite often I make a note of a product's model number and look it up on the manufacturer`s Spanish website and find it is not listed but can find it somewhere else, like their Polish or Romanian website.
