I need to set up direct debit for my water supply. Is there just one company for that & is it an easy process (without any Spanish)

Captain Sensible

Aguas de Antigua supply the Antigua municipality (except the golf course).  Most of the other water on the island is supplied by Caaf.

Where is your property?  If you pay Aguas Antigua then your bank statement should have something like........
EMPRESA MIXTA DE AGUAS DE ANTIGUA S.L

Valles de Ortega.
My solicitor wants 200â,¬ to set up direct debits for water, leccy & other council/tax charges. Thought that was a bit steep so looking for alternatives

Crikey, who is your solicitor? Robbery! For your council tax, rubbish tax and car tax go to the town hall for the Municipality of Antigua and set up what is called "debitos directos" ( direct debits) or "domiciliaciones" - just simple form filling.  There must be someone there who speaks English, but if not you can do it in the local Caleta Town Hall office where Jessica speaks fluent English.  For the water and Electricity I imagine you will have to go to the offices and set it up. (mine was done by my solicitor for free)Endesa ( elec) has an English speaking person on the desk, the water company has an English speaker there but not on the desk (unless it has changed since I last went in there) but there is someone in a back office who does.

Hi Emma,
My mistake. Looked t the email from them again. The 200â,¬ was for council rates & rubbish collection. I think that water & electricity were to be part of the purchase package. Still think it is too steep. Have been v happy with all the rest they have done except thi. It's Fuerteventura Law that did the purchase for us.

emmi

I have dealt with Fuerteventura Law and found them honest and with no complaints. There seems to be some kind of misunderstanding on your part.  Are you saying that the 200 Euros is for the payment of the council tax (IBI) and rubbish (basura) ? Therefore that is the actual cost of the bills issued by the council and not a fee for the lawyer?  I am CONFUSED. â,¬200 is not abnormal for council tax and rubbish, I pay about â,¬400 in total each year for that which is shown on the bills I get from the council.  As for the direct debits for water and electricity, if I remember rightly, the solicitor set those up for me as part of the conveyancing package - so you should ask him if this was done.

Hi Emmi,
No misunderstanding. They said they could set up direct debits for these. The cost to do so is 200â,¬ !!
Wouldn't think 200â,¬ was over the top if it was for the actual bills themselves but seems excessive just to set up direct debits. IMO

Copied from Lawyer correspondence:(to avoid confusion)

"If you would like us to set up the direct debit with the local council for the rates and rubbish taxes then just let me know but you may want to do it yourself. We charge 200â,¬. Please advise."

Windermeregolfer

Our Lawyer has done all this for us as part of the legal purchase package and is still doing it as we are in a new property the council haven't issued the property numbers and values yet to setup the direct debits for council tax, rubbish tax and the income tax that is due in December, can't remember what that is called. All part of the service and very good.

emmi

Well a bit of leg work does not cost anything and as explained further up the thread it is quite easy. Or get a quote from a "Gestor" which should be less expensive than the lawyer.

AQs Emmi said earlier, go to the town hall in Caleta there are two desks in the reception area, the one to the left and set back is specifically for taxes IE council and rubbish tax, the guy that is responsible for this does not speak much English, but at least two of the other girls do, you will not have a problem.

sunluvver

No problems with hijacking the thread! Thats what the forum is for & good news is I have found an email address for Anjoca Aguas Canaries, explained & they replied within a couple of hours. All sorted now & so helpful!

emmi

If you had said you were on the golf course, then you'd have got a quicker answer.  Anjoca, I bleieve,  is a kind of private company, sells on the water from the main supplier.  Here's a thread about them
