Escarabajo beetle

Anyone know about these beetles and if they cause problems in the garden? We seem to have had a few nights with them raining down on us! Obviously hatched out after the rain, but where have they been residing?
Pretty harmless to humans.
Update 31/10: just got back from Pozo Negro. Granja experimental confirm this beetle is not harmful to trees or plants. In fact they told me you can eat it! No thanks.

Swarms of them outside front door, last 3 nights. They fly and make a hell of a noise. Never see them in the day.
