metal strap

Have a built in bbq and the shelf that holds coals has a crack in it. Need a metal strip so can bend down ends and screw to sides under shelf so strap then supports the shelf. Anyone know where I can get on from pl?

On the Norte y Sur / Electron  Industria Estate , turn left just before Ideal Bricolaje, straight down to Boutique Del Ferratero  ( big ferreteria ). Next left where all the new Basura Bins are, down to Medifonsa. A big steel place. Find the size you want, and they'll cut it to the length you want. Dead cheap.

Ask them to drill some holes in it for you as well. You'll find it incredibly difficult to drill it yourself without a bench drill. Well worth a few extra euros.
If you measure accurately, they might put a couple of bends in as well. Trying to fold anything over about 2mm thick will surprise you!!
Alternatively, at a builders merchant, 'joist restraint straps' (no sniggering) are  500 -1000m long, galvanised and full of holes.

Alternatively, go down to your nearest garbage bins and have a look-see what's been dumped there. It's amazing what people leave there in the way of collapsed seats, clothes dryers, etc.
A small hacksaw and a hammer should do the trick. I usually start there for fishing rod-rests when on holiday. Adds too much weight to your suitcase.

Correct about the drilling. A Cordless drill is almost useless for drilling steel, unless it's an expensive posh one.  They have those  'joist restraint straps' at the Boutique Ferretaria.
