And long overdue so a big thanks to Jet2 who are leading the way in tackling the drunken boneheads, typically, but not exclusively, those with more money than IQ. That said, the pinch point in sorting this out is at the gate prior to boarding, not in the air.Although this appears to be where Jet2 are tackling it. From my experience most gate staff will let just about anyone through, they don`t feel confident about tackling aggressive drunks, or even the incapable ones. Last time we came out from Liverpool, the flight was delayed due to an obvious drunk, let through by the gate staff and denied boarding, at the bottom of the steps, by the despatcher. Small delay whilst said idiots bags were located and removed.

Airlines pay as little as possible for ground handling, that`s why hopeless outfits like `Clever`at Fuerteventura are still in business. There is no way they can afford to put security, or more staff on the gates and the airlines aint gonna pay anytime soon. So although a lot of hot air will be expended I don`t anticipate any meaningful change in the near future...very sad to say

Jet2 have their own handling people so can staff the gates a little better, but for the others its still going to be pot luck

I've been commenting on this for months. Some "Brits Abroad" leave their brains at the airport.

Was brought up once before ,has i said last time why cant all these police monitor the gates when boarding is in progress ,ok not every flight but the more obvious ones ie prague,Dublin,Baleric islands ,even Canary islands at least they are showing a presence instead of being a non entity

After all when was the last time you glimpsed these rarities at the airport
do illiterate people really get the benefits of alphabet soup

Anyone who has caught the fri morning early flight from Leeds Bradford will have seen how busy the bars are at 5 in the morning! Especially in the summer with stag and hen parties. It is clear to see that many of them have been up all night drinking and then top it up in the bars before boarding the flight. Fortunately it is a just minority that cause any problems. My daughter and her boyfriend flew with Jet2 to Ibiza in the summer and all alcohol was banned from being taken on the flight, including any bought in duty free!!
