The new hotel at Las Gaviotas, between Aldiana and Magic Life is taking shape now. I believe it's called the Royal Palm, and just recently the activity has geared up, with literally hundreds of tradesmen working on the finish.
They have completed some rooms at the front, even with furnishings - I guess for the publicity or brochures.
It is due to open in Autumn.
Apparently Fuerteventura have more 5 stars in the pipeline, after this one.

They certainly have speeded up contruction as last year it seemed there were only a couple of men working on it. Don't know what will happen with the old Stella Canaris in the centre of Jandia though as it has been closed for over a year and the grounds are beginning to look pretty bad as they seem to have stopped irrigating the grounds.

We were told yesterday by staff in a nearby shop that the Stella site has been purchased for redevelopment but they didn't know who by, what the plans for it are, or when work might start. In total there were 300 rooms in that resort they said - that's a lot of visitors no longer visiting the area so the new hotel at Las Gaviotas might do OK.

When we looked through the tumbledown fencing and buildings we could see a couple of exotic birds still hanging around the old zoo area, looking as if they had been abandoned. Hopefully the other animals were found good homes when the zoo closed.
