Missing Police and Guardia

Are the Police and Guardia on Strike, no traffic checks at roundabouts all week, hardly seen any Police or Guardia about for a while, anyone no why? or is it just
my imagination.

No its not you, we were over earlier in the month and I was expecting to see the Police/Guardia out in force all over the island, however only saw them on two occasions once by the Atlantico and the other near Oasis Park.... at least it made me keep to the speed limits.

Sign of the times, probably..The Police have suffered cutbacks like all of Spain and may have re deployed some of the staff to other Islands or even the mainland, leaving more to the Policia Local..Correlejo, for instance, has a new massive GC barracks, far bigger than is needed for a low crime or disorder area.The recruitment figures for the Guardia are that they are only replacing 10 officers for every 100 who leave, so something has to give...

The other side of the coin is that I would`nt be suprised to see a mushrooming of speed cameras all over the Island. Then you will know for certain that the Police numbers have been reduced.

Cameras are preferable to being stopped at checkpoints every five minutes. Up side with that is a camera can't detect if you're wearing flipflops, have a spare set of spectacles or a hi viz jacket hiding in the glove compartment. Down side is it can't detect if you're high as a kite either.

They are around...in the past week I have seen Guardia at Atlantico roundabout, at Nuevo Horizonto roundabout, at the Ikea roundabout, plus the odd patrol car.

Think most of the Guardia Civil spend their time in the "Gory" restaurant next to the Trafalgar !

I've seen them at Ikea roundabout. A lot of Guardia come to Fuerte for training purposes, so the numbers fluctuate.

There is definitely an lack of any Law enforcement services in the Corralejo area. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining, just curious. I can only assume they made their annual bonus for Christmas and are still on holiday. It was a daily occurrence up until the New Year for the main roundabout "stop and view papers" carry on.

They were all over Corralejo like flies on a corpse yesterday evening. And I got stopped at an alcohol checkpoint in Lajares about 10 days ago, though quickly waved on after a sniff round. But it had been a bit quiet for a while. I think it has a lot to do with the training courses they run.

they must have plenty of money in the kitty from the extortionate fine's they lash out, so, u'll know when their fund's start to drop, they'll be out "in-force" again,

Its nice to no the Guardia are still about, you start to miss their lovely smiling faces as they greet you with their pleasant opening line "I am terribly sorry to trouble you sir,I'm just doing my job".

A lot of you are going to call me, yesterday I ditched a bag of rubbish at 9 o'clock, live on the edge that's what I say.
