Hi

This might be a stupid question, but is it Ok to take a rental car over to Lanzarote. We want to go shopping in Ikea and bring it all back.

Is is just Fred Olsen who takes cars.

Thanks

Deso

You need to get permission from the hire company, some allow it and others not.

Unless time is an issue, go over on foot and get the bus. Then you can order your items for delivery to IKEA at Mattoral.   :D
Regards, Neil
Looking forward to the day I tick the "One way only" box when booking flights to Fuerte. [:)]

Thanks we are ordering the big stuff to be delivered and just wanted to go over to choose the little stuff. fill the car and come back over.

Will call some of the car companies to check.

Thanks for info.

If I were you I wouldn't bother! It'll cost you about 100€ in the ferry, you will have to deal with the traffic around Arrecefi and you'll find Ikea a disappointment if you think it's like Ikea in the UK - it's small, cramped and when we were  there were long queues at checkout.

If you are still in the UK, just go round your local IKEA store and put your order together there, then enter it online before you come back and it arrives at the Fuerte IKEA in 2 days for collection or delivery to your home.
We found they had every item except one and all have the same codes. Easy.

Yes much better idea, we do it all the time.....except that once!

Top Car Autoreisin do not allow you to take their cars onto a different island. We looked at this a couple of years ago. Decided to see Lanzarote on a bus tour instead.
Whats wrong with the Ikea in Fuerte anyway ?

I think you will find that Cicar, Cabrera Medina and Payless will allow you to take their cars to Lanzarote as their Head Office is there anyway which means that they can therefore provide support if you have a problem. You do need to let them know in advance.
Another option to consider is ferry without car to Lanzarote and then hire a car for the day from the ferry terminal. You would then, of course, need to have everything delivered to Fuerte.
I agree that Ikea in Lanzarote is a bit of a let down - not like UK stores.

You can take your hire car across in some cases as already said, if you tell the company in advance. Both Armas and Fred Olsen will take you and they both charge around 50€, although it's a lot less if you get a resident's discount and/or if you qualify for one of their special deals. Whereabouts and other organisers also do special offers that might be cheaper.

But everything's online and it's easy to match up the items between different countries/languages - I often search on the UK site then use the name as the search keyword on the Lanzarote site as my Spanish isn't good enough for doing searches.

When we were in the IKEA in May they told us that they would pay for us and the car to go over to Lanzarote as long as we bought something in IKEA.

However, I didn't really ask if that was only for residents.  Worth asking at the store or perhaps someone else on here knows about it?

Their English info on this isn't entirely clear (can't find anything in Spanish though) and it looks as though there are a lot of ifs and buts to it: http://www.fuerteventura.ikea.es/IKEA-fred-olsen.php

Hmmmm looks like you have to spend a minimum of 400 Euros which might not be difficult but also using IKEA family Master  Card.  Never simple.

They presented to us - as long as you bought something with no minimum spend.  That was in Spanish so no misinterpretation of English.

Guess just as easy to order on line and have delivered.

Thanks all, after looking at all you replies might as well order on lines we have loads to buy and thought the lanzarote ikea would be like ours at home.

Taking a car over on the ferry is a very expensive option - 2 adults and a normal car about 120€.
The best way is to get one of the special offers from "Where Abouts or others,   - open return - Princesa Ico 23€
Armas - 25€  - Fred Olsen - 27€ Children 1/2price  - on Ico under 5s FREE - others under 3s FREE.  You will need your passport for the Armas or Fred Olsen - don't know why, but.....

You can then rent a car for a day on Lanzarote for about 30 - 35€ thus saving about 40-50€
