Can anyone inform me what is the law in relation to car insurance here on the island.
Do you have to name the drivers as per UK or do you insure the vehicle and anyone can drive it provided they have the owners permission. ??

You insure the car and anyone over 25 with a license can drive it seems to be the general insurance conditions.

I am confused myself so thanks to this page, I was able to keep myself updated. Thank you for the answer but I better ask my insurer too to be sure.

Anyone over 25 can drive with the owners permission if you insure with Liberty Seguras. I have insured my car with Rob at Atlantic Insurance, opposite the bus station in Corralejo. A great price too.

I find car insurance on Fuerteventura is much higher than the UK. I have just purchased a new car in the UK which is about 5 times the price of my car here on the island, yet the car insurance on  Fuerte is 1/3 more than my car in the UK.

I can only assume that the price of insurance here is high because there is less competition or the Spanish have more accidents. However I believe that a lot of the local drivers just have 3 rd party insurance here as most of them have dents and bumps and never seem to get repaired. We hear a lot about rip off Britain but maybe with insurance it should be rip off Fuerteventura.

My insurance here for a 7 seater, is much cheaper than in England. I bought the exact same car as I had in England , where the insurance was a third more expensive.
