French to take over Majanicho

Has anyone else seen the news report on the web site for rtvc.es (TV Canarias) that the French tour operator Pierre et Vacances is to offer all 700 villas as holiday lets for the 2013/2014 winter season. Looks like there will be a French invasion this winter!

I was staying at the Castillo D'Antigua from the 13th till 20th of April,on the day we were leaving 120 french arrived at check-in together,needless to say there was bedlam for over an hour.Took me an age to check out.

Our TV setup gets precious little other than French channels as we brought it with us from France: there was a documentary just last night about all the properties in Spain going dirt cheap and being snapped up by the French. They are definitely on their way!

Great news for me personally, as I'm a French to English translator and they may bring me work, even though French to Spanish might be the more logical demand . And maybe there will be more top-quality restaurants opening up. There are a couple of higher-end places here in Corralejo (Infusion and La Taberna both offer quality, at a price), but that isn't a lot for a place with a wealth of cheap-and-cheerful places (and I'm not knocking them - both have their place in the market). The French restaurant that opened a few weeks ago offers great quality but I thought that it was doomed to fail as our bill was definitely heavy. Maybe it will do well if this "invasion" really gets going.

But it's a shame if they're taking over whole hotels. What I particularly like about Corralejo is that so many nationalities spend their holidays together here, getting by the best they can in a real hotch-potch of languages, with kids playing together on the beach even though they don't share a word. The absolute opposite of the awful racism you see so much of.
