What to do for my sons 5th Birthday in Fue

Hi
We are over in Jan / Feb and its my sons 5th Birthday whilst we are there. We have been many many times before and visited a fair amount of the island.

We dont really know what to do for the day for his birthday, we have twin daughters (aged 2) so this some what limits us. We have looked at the Zoo but ruled this out.

Just really like to know some ideas, we are staying in Corralejo in a villa so have pool, BBQ and so forth but just wanted to do something a little different, we will be out for the evening for a meal its just the day we want ideas for.

Take him out for a run on the trikes, my grandson now 7 loves these

Maybe a trip over to Lanzarote would be a good idea? We went over for the day a while ago and we saw flying fishes - that would probably interest him, though I don't think you should guarantee them (far less dolphins which I believe can be seen occasionally). The front at Playa Blanca is really nice, with a little beach close to the harbour for those without transport to the two bigger ones. Lots of bars and restaurants and no doubt things for kids to do there. Sorry, mine are long grown so I didn't notice anything. Ferry prices are extortionate with the car but much more reasonable for foot passengers.

Other possibilities which you may or may not do each time:

a camel ride across the dunes or in Lajares
bouncy castles etc above the El Campanario shopping centre
trampolines and the very spectacular harnessed bouncing thing next to them - I'd give that a go myself if I didn't have advanced osteoporosis
canoeing in the harbour

I actually think that far more ought to be provided for kids and families over here - where are all the "goat petting and feeding" places, for a start? I'm sure enough people would be willing to pay reasonable rates for experiences like that. My son was 7 when we moved to Holland and there you were never more than a few km from a "kinderboerderij" = children's farm (as you can no doubt work out from Kinder eggs and the Boer war

).

He´s FIVE years old !!!! Buy him a Bucket and Spade and go to the Beach.

Thanks Sheila there are some good suggestions there. Well worth a thought.

As much as my son likes a bucket and spade, he's 5 they got bored easily. Plus I dare say we will be going to the beach most days so its not really a birthday treat.

The cool runnings trikes do a trip to Pepe's farm, where there are goats, and a camel to be seen.

Don't think I am mad, because young kids do go out on the trikes and love it. each trike takes 3 people incl. the driver, and they do supply safety helmets etc.

Young lads love them

If you want coolrunnings telephone no. please pm me as I do want to be acused of blatant advertising. Cool runnings has nothing to do with me except that John and Lyn are friends as a result of going out on numerous trips.

Life is fun at five.....children have amazing imaginations... you could let him decide what he would like to do and I am sure he will be happy.

When my children were young one of their favourite things to do was snail racing with their friends at parties (amongst other crazy things) It was my Mums idea, she had amazing ideas and was full of fun....and the winner got a little prize. The other kids loved it. They were all bored with going to the various Play centres for ready made parties . There are no snails on the Island however....but .....fun can be found in the simplest ways .

You could have a little party around the pool with pass the parcel and a cake and candles....dont complicate the day too much ....think of your wife and the twins too. A long journey can be boring for children who are young. Sand castles are fun to make and you could bring a special picnic with you ....and a little treat afterwards to the swings would be nice and simple. He is only five after all. What children value most of all is the time that you spend with them and the magic that you can help them see in the simple things in life.

There's plenty of happy hours that go on in Fuerteventura, 2 for 1 on local beers wines and spirits in most places

http://www.fincapepe.com/en is the place to go to see goats and some other animals, plus cheese tasting.

It's near Betancuria, so you can incorporate it into a trip to see the real Fuerteventura.

I wasn't very impressed when I visited Finca Pepe last year. We arrived just as the tricycle group were leaving. There was no one to greet us, almost no signs to suggest where to go. We wandered around the milking parlour and the pens of goats and camel for a while, and then found our way to the shop area in front of a coach tour which had just arrived. The shop was deserted. Eventually I spotted a plate of cheese pieces which I took to be samples, but as I approached it the tour guide appeared and shouted at me. Presumably the samples were for his party.
Maybe I was there at a bad time, but it didn't seem worth making a trip for.

My experience was a little better, but not much. Unfortunately, they're only geared up for parties. They say they're open all the time for individuals, and though we did find the couple and their sons very welcoming, things like cheese-making had been done earlier and were going to be done later - not for us.

What they really need to do is allocate a slot each day for individuals - remember, 20 individuals make a group who will very happily buy the produce and stay for a snack!

There's also a place that you pass on the way once you turn off the road to Betancuria (I think). We went there last summer - it was pretty nice and you could wander around all the goat pens.

Having said that I tend to agree with Fifi, and on the basis of my son's 5th birthday party at the weekend make sure you get a piñata!

Not as adventurous as some of the suggestions already made but why not try out the party sessions they do at the Campanario centre? Given the age of your children I think it might appeal and they will get the chance to mix with the local,children. It's up on the first floor area of the centre in the afternoon/early evening. Not been ourselves but intend going soon when our youngest grandchild visits to check it out.
I think on the weekend there are two sessions but can't remember the exact times.

Hi there, the indoor / outdoor play area in the Campanario centre at Corralejo is actually ok providing the weather is good, otherwise you are confined to the small indoor play area which in all honesty really isn't that large. We live on the island and our son was invited to a party there but it rained and so wasn't so good, but like I said, if the weather is good then he will have a good time. It is just like one of the indoor play centres back in the UK.
Maybe your son would enjoy a visit into the dark caves where the little blind spiders hang out, that could be fun if he likes that sort of thing?!
