Movistar internet speed

Is there something going on at the momemt with Movistar internet speed? For the last couple of weeks the measured download speed has been appalling - even after we got put up to 10Mb from 6Mb a few days ago. (We are in Corralejo Bristol Zone). On one occasion it was 0.28. I know we have no comeback on Movistar given their get-outs in contracts - but this is ridiculous.

My connection is always up and down with them, but I think it's because there's a problem with my phone line.

I'm on Tamaragua and I've only got about half my 10mb paid-for speed at the moment - often it's as high as 8mb. Good enough for me, though.

Yeah I'm in Nuevo Horizonte and pretty far from my exchange so I only get about 3mb from 10.

Just in case it is of interest and use to anyone! It got worse! In frustration I switched the router (Movistar man left one in error once!) and Hey Presto 8+ MB! I assume I could have achieved the same with a RESET on the other router. Beyond me why there was such a problem before!

That's good to hear, what I would do for 8MB speed :(

I also pay for the 10MB service, although I have never been able to get anywhere near to that! We also live in Corralejo, near El Campanario. Here's my results from today -

Just checked my previous results, the highest I have ever had was 5.15MB (that only ever happened once) and the lowest being 0.52MB. Usually, it is around 2.92MB - 3.45MB.

That's ours at the moment - a particularly good connection today. It's weird that it's so variable. Anyone know what the "ping" refers to? I've heard it talked about, but I'm not very computer savvy.

This mine tonight, and is generally around this level, don't know what Ping is either or the Grade B.  It was 10.71 earlier today download.

Just worked out to get the screen shot on here, so showing off LOL!

Wow, what I would do for your speed Emmi  :o

Ping is the quality of the line, the lower the number is, the better the quality.

Also, if you get closer to your router you will get a faster speed.

Mine won't improve much, my line attenuation is around 60-70.

How come it is so different ? Is it because of location on the Island or other factors? We are wireless here.

I am already using an Ethernet cable, max I sync at is about 3mb, which is about right for my attenuation.

There are a few factors, how far you are from the exchange and quality of the line are probably the biggest.

Well my internet has been so bad the past week or 2, think I'm gonna finally have to call them and see if they can do anything about it, I'm sure if i call sometime this week someone will turn up by the end of February  ::)
