Whilst out and about driving on Fuerte is it still the case that you cant drive in sandals or flip flops and must always have your hire car documents (if its hired) and driving licence with you ?

Yes to the driving licence and hire documents whenever driving, plus passport of course. Re footwear, sandals are OK provided they have a heel strap. Flip flops are a definite 'no', and the trafico DO check footwear regularly....no good slipping them off and going barefoot, as that's also a no-no!

I think the ideas is that any slip ON footwear is liable to slip OFF, too, leaving you unable to brake 100% effectively. So those common backless clog styles are out too, but anything with even a thin heel strap is fine.

I do wish the idea of British ID cards hadn't been dropped as it's a serious pain having to carry something as large and vulnerable as a passport year in, year out. I actually got a photocopy of mine signed and stamped by a local notary public and I'll be carrying that until it falls to bits. It's always been accepted so far (fingers crossed ;)).

Yeah you need decent sandals

You also have to carry 2 flourescent jackets, 2 warning triangles, a spare set of bulbs, if you need glasses for driving, you must have them on, you can't drive with one arm out of the window (Majorero Arm), dogs cannot be in the front, they must have their own seat belt attachment in the back, or a grille across. Children under 12 not allowed in the front. No mobile phone or sat-nav to be operated whilst driving. Alcohol is limited to 0.5 milligrams of alcohol per millilitre, non-residents will be fined on-the-spot. You can park on the wrong side of the road, but don't cross a solid white line to do so. If you run out of petrol and pull over to the side, you will be fined. Vehicles cannot be towed, you have to call a Grua (breakdown wagon), this can be done by calling the insurance company, and they will send one.

Can't think of any more at the moment  :o

I've sold out of Majorero arms, think folk are buying them for Christmas presents. The model with the tattoos and cigarette is the best seller.

Mmm interesting . On my recent visit I forgot my driving licecence , got the daughter to scan it and send a copy to car hire people , which they accepted . My plan was that if stopped I would produce hire documents and passport and then pretend my driving licence had gone missing . But should the car hire company have let me have the car in the first place .
