Title: Latest update, 4g internet Movistar, Vodafone, Orange
Post by: Archer on October 05, 2018, 13:28:52 PM
This is solely based on my own experience over the last month:

Movistar offered Fusion 0, which they describe as 'Internet Radio at 20Mb' unlimited data. The package includes 2 simcards; inc 200mins calls plus 2gb data and other free calls but with 24,79 cts connection fee plus 200Mb data. Cost: 41,04â,¬
Vodafone offered One basico '30Mb' with 80Gb data limit/month plus Red S mobile phone simcard. Unlimited calls and 6Gb data. Cost: 50,40â,¬
Orange offer 4g with 50Gb data limit/month, plus a phone at cheaper rates. Cost: 30â,¬ if you already a customer.

Movistar failed to show up for the installation (as described by Tamara), but later called to say that, in our area, NO MORE capacity is available. No wait list, nothing. They just cancelled the order.

Vodafone looks a bit high. So, wait to see if there is a better deal soon and I don't need another mobile at the moment. Maybe later.

Orange is just rubbish. Toooo slow to do anything useful.

Hope this helps, if you are making a decision.

Hi Archer,

I had Vodafone One. Taken it out as the download speeds were rubbish, usually less than 1mbps!  I'm awaiting a code so I can return the equipment. That said, others in Cotillo have found it satisfactory. I think as we are on the very edge of the village, our signal is very poor.

I've ordered Movistar Fusion #0 and had a call to say the engineer will be here at 9am next Thursday. I await with keen anticipation!!  Meanwhile, I've established that phones can be installed within this community (2 of 16 have phone lines) and I've discovered where all the incoming lines are in a service room. Just wish i had a circuit tester, so I could prove our line works (a neighbour needed to replace his cables).

I will update after next Thursday.

Tom.

Thanks Tom. I wish I had a line to my house. But even if there was the Movistar guy said there's no more capacity in our area. Lines or 4g!!
I know Vodafone 4g works well as I currently have a UK sim on roaming and it's good and fast. Better than Orange, that's for sure.
Keep us updated on your install. Thanks. PS: was it 40â,¬?

I am very happy with my Vodafone 4g en Casa apart from the 80Gb/month limit which is a far cry from the fibre I had in the UK.

It is a little pricey but my better half wants the mobile so it works out for us. We have the mobile Tariff "Red M" (12Gb/Unlimited Mins/txts) at â,¬55.33/month and by my calculations the "Red S" Tariff you mention should come out at â,¬46.82/month rather than the â,¬50 you state. Remember that you need to take off IVA at 21% from the advertised prices and replace it with IGIC reducido at 3%.

Also, we are out of contract at the moment (she doesn't know if she wants to change mobile or not  :-X), but if you take out a 12month contract on the mobile tariff (which I think is required for a new customer) then there is a discount on the monthly mobile tariff price if you dont't take a handset and go SIM only. By my calculations, this works out on the "RED S" Tariff as â,¬42.56/month

EDIT: For anyone with no other option, or who needs an unlimited connection, then it may be worthwhile looking at this company:
https://tiekom.com/ â,¬60/month for unlimited 30Mb/s 4g connection which I understand runs on the Movistar/Telefonica network. They are used by atleast one person on these forums, but not tried them my self.

Thanks Lexeus. I remember you said that price, and also mentioned there are cheaper tariffs. I tried all that in the Puerto shop (if you have a spare hour to wait in line with a ticket). But they wouldn't budge. IGIC inc.
The tariff was on a card, and they even printed out a presupuesto for me. Nothing less than â,¬50 for me.
But, they did note my mobile number, and hey presto they started calling me daily!! So, based on a friends' experience I think the price and offer will reduce in time. We'll see  ;)

Tom, it could be that they give too much data away to everyone on mobile contracts, and free HBO. All 4g systems are creaking at the seams.

Got to the Chinos, they have them for low prices, and if you don't see one then just pickup a multi-metre and cross the cables at one end.

Also, I usually get around 22Mbps on my Vodafone 4g en casa

Can't you order online, or over the phone? Maybe try ringing the Vodafone shop in Morro Jable? I got mine from Gran Tarajal so I don't know if perhaps the first year is a different price because they give you a free router. All I can say is that the bills state a price for the 4g en casa separately and it didn't go down after the 12month contract with the free router, in fact this year in March that price went up as they bumped the data up from 55Gb to 80Gb

Only other suggestion which may be a longshot is to phone lidertel directly, who were the owners of the GranTarajal Vodafone Franchise http://www.grupolidertel.com/info/vodafone_casa

Looks like they had a shop in Corralejo too, don't know if that shop is still open as the GranTarajal shop is still on the list: http://www.grupolidertel.com/tiendas
