they have been banned by every outlet now apart from the ones run by locals.

as usual, fuerte has one rule for foreigners and another completely different rule for locals.

You must be in contention for the Worlds Greatest Idiot.

There are three places by Legends, one on each corner, still renting them out. I dont think they´re Spanish, if that´s what you mean by locals. They were all over the place yesterday.

There is another one in the Montecastillo Centre, and they are definitely Spanish

They are too big and heavy for many youngsters to control I think - defo should have a minimum age limit of around 18 if they aren`t banned

Last time we were over what looked like an English family hired them and came buzzing down past the Trafalgar where the water fountains are. A middle aged woman (50 or 60`s) came down & crossed the road at the bottom of the Trafalgar. Couldn`t control the scooter & went full belt down the steps at the basement pub on the opposite corner. Appeared after 15min, covered in bruises. That is pretty normal I would say !!

Does anyone know what happened to the guy/girl riding the scooter was any action taken as to reporting the incident?

I'm surprised that visitors to Caleta would ever participate in this sort of anti-social behaviour. ;D

I tend to avoid Jandia. Too many Dutch and Germans. No electric scooters true, but lots of socks with sandals, dodgy haircuts, shocking dress sense and boisterous heavy beer drinking.

I only saw a handful of them on Correlajo streets a couple of months back, sorry, I meant a couple of hundred of the bloody things causing havoc along with the bad mannered, ignorant, arrogant cyclists who think they own the place, at times it was mayhem.

No scooters, being the best dressed and looking, plus blending in (re beer-drinking), Hmmm Jandia sounds good! ;) => makes you feel better about yourself without much effort

We had half a day in Caleta last week and were appalled at the number of scooters riding along the promenade near the harbour, signs saying no scooters but totally ignored by all riders... no consideration for the general public

Just copied from Fb;-
THIS IS FOR INFO ONLY. If you are driving in and around Corralejo please be careful we nearly hit a guy this morning on one of those electric scooters,he pulled out at the junction at the Campanario and the road leading to Atlantic gdns without looking. Then a couple of hours later another scooter was going the wrong way on a one way street and a motorcycle nearly hit him as he was turning into it, there was two boys on the scooter one about twelve the other about six .I'm not trying to start a debate on the subject, but tryiing to make you aware please be careful and a word to anyone who hires one please make sure you know how to ride safely because we do want you to return to Corralejo in the future.

So it's not just in Caleta there's problems!

They are regarded as a toy and are not allowed on the road.

I heard a rumour last weekend that a woman had been killed on one on the promenade in front of the hotels, and that another one had come around a corner and knocked two women over who were sat having a coffee, The wife was having her hair. cut this morning, and according to the hairdresser  someone has been killed on one last week apparently, the hire companies have been given two weeks to close down, Now whether this is true or not, or if it affects privately owned scooters, I do not know, but there was a singular lack of the Bl**dy things in Caleta this morning

No they were everywhere today on the promenade in Caleta maybe over a 100. No Police anywhere so if they have been banned no one has taken any notice.

I suppose, like clackers hula hoops and deely boppers, the scooters are just a passing fad and as they start to break down and the owner realises they cannot be repaired they will fade away. Unless an enterprising entrepreneur can perhaps rig them out as mini beer bikes.

We have been in and out of Caleta 4/5 times in the last couple of days, and while there are scooters about, it does not appear to be as many as is normal.

What happened to the smaller scooters, the ones we saw recently were all bigger ones with wider wheels (and I guess more power).....

Just got back from two weeks in the South.  I had not a clue what 'Electric Scooters' meant in this context, I assumed someone had fixed motors to those little mincy silver scooters that kids and sad adults buzz around on.  I was not prepared for the monster reality of a machine capable of high speed carrying two people.  The situation in Jandia is not too bad with only a few around and they tend to stick to the cycle track. In Cory I saw a stupid cow try to ride one through a waterside restaurant and got stuck.
The worse place by far, was a Caleta, where we I`ll advisedly stopped on the way back to the airport. Weatherspoons Warriors were flying all over the place on them and coming up at speed behind pedestrians.
It won`t be too long before someone is killed or seriously hurt. Got to agree with Woe, get a grip now

I suspect I will be the only one on here that looks at the electric scooter situation as an opportunity.  Traffic in Caleta and everywhere else on the island continues to build as Fuerteventura gets more popular.  Parking is getting more and more difficult.  Whilst it would be great if people just walked everywhere that is not going to ever happen.  Likewise the days of the pedal bike are a bygone era from the perspective of many and are the bain of pedestrian and car driver alike.  Major cities in the US and elsewhere are recognising that scooters are becoming an urban transportation method that if well thought out can reduce pollution, traffic jams, parking issues and accidents.

That`s the problem pp1.
Which I think comes down to two basic reasons that actually feed off one another.
1 - when people come on holiday they just completely ignore rules & say effectively, I am not Spanish, I can`t read Spanish &/so the rules dont apply to me. These tend to be the same type of people who have multiple asbo`s (IMO) in U.K.
2 - the Spanish police are quite lax at imposing rules unless there is a benefit in it for them & the cabildo don`t want to hurt there tourist trade which is mega important to the island.
Just my thoughts on this though !!

Fine, but machines of this size and speed capability have no place mixing it with pedestrians on the footpath. Also, are they insured?

The irony there is that if they aren't on a public road then they don't need insurance ;)

I take your point, Perry, and in some aspects agree, the issue is of course regulation, they are technically not allowed on the roads or the pavements so are restricted to the cycle tracks, which do not interconnect so riders of these things have no option other than to ignore the law, and as long as the police allow it will continue, I posted on here some time ago re a death that had occurred because of these scooters, fortunately it was just gossip, but it will happen, there is no room on the pavements for these things.
