Official announcement from the Fuerte tourismo, 37% overall drop in tourists in the first quarter of 2012 - biggest drop is from the UK down 27%.
this is in line with the governments policy, no english radio stations a drop in english papers and magazines, advertising the island is now targeting other countries russia for example amongst others.
And maybe a lack of private accommodation

good luck, and people think some English are problamatical, wait till the ignorant russians move in;(
Don't think you can rely on tourismo figures, only the AENA, the Spanish airport authorities have accurate counts of the passengers arriving at any given time.
The AENA Passenger Figures for the months this year:
January 368,260 up 2.3% compared to Jan 2011
February 361,215 down 6.6% compared to Feb 2011
March 410,986 down 9.1% compared to Mar 2011
April 380,366 down 16.6% compared to Apr 2011
Source: http://www.aena-aeropuertos.es/csee/Satellite?Language=ES_ES&c=Page&cid=1144247795704&pagename=Estadisticas%2FEstadisticas&periodoInforme=Mensual
2011 saw the biggest number of passengers ever to the island at 1.9 million according to AENA stats. Overall percentage increase in passenger numbers in 2011 compared to 2010 was 32.39%. So effectively even if 2012 drops back to 2010 numbers (a drop of 32.39%) it's still a pretty respectable number of island visitors. According to my quick calculations the average decrease in numbers for the first 4 months of 2012 is only 8.65% compared to the same months in 2011.
The price of oil will be a huge factor this year.

you are so right Appy
One of the reasons we stopped holidaying in Goa - there were many Russian tourists who didn't cause any problems, but, there were sufficient numbers of the ill mannered variety to mar a night out or indeed a night's sleep if you happened to be within shouting distance of their hotel room. The Indian hosts were so well mannered and gentle by comparison, and didn't really know how to deal with their loutish behaviour. On the plus side, expect some great aerobatic displays as they land and depart. They have retired all the old wonderfully named Ilyushin Tupolev etc fleet, but not the pilots.
Goa the Indian Benidorm[:D]
should be well oiled on arrival .......best part of a seven hour flight !
Another bit of info - I was told yesterday is that Thomas Cook numbers are down 50% on last May.
So it is not imagination, there really are very few Brits here at the moment.
what happened to the polish invasion?
So far haven't been aware of it.
perhaps they're all hiding in the A/I's
polish,,,, all in the uk mate
i won't dispute that
I think the main problem with British tourists is they are really feeling the pinch financially. The UK is in recession yet again and people are losing their jobs etc.
