Title: Derelict Buildings on Parque Holandes Roundabout
Post by: el caballo hambriento on October 20, 2017, 13:24:51 PM
When I was out in Fven a few weeks ago I noticed that signs for Yoga were displayed on it.  Someone has made a garden there.  I did not investigate what was going on but it looks like there may be squatters there.  Does anyone have any information about this?

I read somewhere about a year ago, that The Olivia  Ayamento was going to compulsory purchase it and demolish it, but out hear that could take 20 Years.

20 years? so that means itll still be there in 40 years then?

Probably, but I did not want to exaggerate.

I love that building.
One of the few things they ever constructed here with a specific charm.
Somehow it always remembers me of a mexican pueblo once upon a time in the west.

That building has been like that since I arrived here 24 years ago.
Compulsary Purchase off who ?  Nobody knows who owns it.

In the past, when licences to construct were assigned, they didn't have a time limit for completion.

the result being lots of unfinished constructions. The spanish are inclined to wait and wait and wait and wait until such time as they see a possibility of making money - screw everyone else!!

Hence the difficulty of demolishing the construction mentioned.

Something many of you probably don't know............locals find unused plots; stick a notice in the ground declaring that they own it; wait 20 years; then they own it. It's a common passtime, particularly in Fuerteventura. I know quite a lot of plots acquired in this way. It's always rustic land. Once "owned", they then sell it to foreigners as urban land, lol.

You have to admit though. If your staying in Corralejo and its your first time in Fuerteventura, seeing the derelict buildings covered in graffiti and then the giant one as you enter Corralejo, it wouldnt give very good first impressions would it

Calculator, can you please elaborate on that? Sounds very interesting to learn about.

At a ayuntamiento pleno approx 2 months ago it was agreed that the building licence would be terminated and the building demolished. Also the same with the large hotel as you enter Corralejo. So I would imagine this will happen in the near future.

But they have to find a company that will do it and pay them what they want. The usual bs with construction in Fuerteventura, it'll still probably be there in 20 years time

There is another large bunch of properties on the left on the way from from Caleta to Rosario (before the hospital) that have been left for years as well. Shocking waste of resources. I am sure developers would be interested in a lot of them if the banks were made to sell them off at low cost so they could be finished off & stop being eyesores.

Probably construction companies who think they can sort them out, realise they cant then look to try and make a few quid more than they bought it for
