Anyone got any tips /advice on how to control ants and tiny insects in the kitchen.
I've tried the normal traps, kitchen wipes etc.. , but each time I come back to the apartment the worktop, tiles , cupboards are infested with tiny insects scurrying around.
I've given up on cereals packets , because regardless of whether they are open or not they are soon infested.
When you add milk you can see the tiny bodies floating around 😬.
The apartment is always left dry, clean and tidy but the problem persists.

Nippon kills the ants nest does not happen quickly but once the queen is dead the colony dies and the problem goes away. Plus no unslightly white power or spray so safe to use in kitchens.
Not seen it on the island but either go online or get someone to bring it for you if you are resident on the island.
I have a number of those ant bait stations, they might be made by Nippon I'm not sure, I am fairly certain I bought them either at the hardware store in El Matoral or Nord Y Sur in PDR.
With regards to your cereals, I suggest that you keep them in a tuberware type container with a closed lid.

Ant traps sold over there do nothing, waste of money, tried them all, likewise they get in sealed plastic containers, dont know how but they do, yet to find anything that works long term.
Ordinary fly spray will kill them where they are coming in (plug sockets) but only lasts a couple of hours.
We had the same problem when out in April we found some stuff in the the Spar @ Atlantico in Caleta. You are supposed to put a capful In a bucket of warm water and mop the floors and ants won't cross the area for about 4 weeks. I decided to mix a stronger amount in a 750mm sprayer and spray around the floors the edges of the rooms and out side the patio doors and the outside of the building where the walls meet the patio. And it worked! I am sorry I can't remember the product name and the instructions are in Spanish so we took a chance google translated the instructions and we were very happy with the results. I am back out in just over a week and will post the name when we are out. Sorry can't be of anymore help at the moment.
I read somewhere if you mix bread soda and sugar and place it in small containers the critters eat it but as they cant belch, it kills them, suppose to work well on the old cockroach I'm told.
I have tried the ant baits without success and tried sealed bags inside sealed containers, but the cereal still gets attacked.
I'm in Caleta myself now, so I'll call in the Spar to try to locate the producer suggested.
Thanks for your kind replies

Been here for years, take it from me, nothing works for more than a day or two. It's a losing battle,
Just make sure you put any cereals, sugar, flour etc .. in sealed plastic containers, from chinese shop. I do this now and nothing gets infected.

I think the name you are looking for is "Ceradi" I got it after a previous recommendation on here. It is a 1ltr bottle of pinkish liquid. The stuff stinks when you mop the floors but haven't ever seen anything inside our place yet

Sounds like the stuff I use: DESIC
Purple container with pic of a dog on the front. Not cheap, about 7/8â,¬ a bottle. I get about 8 buckets of floor cleaner mix from a bottle. I also use it in a stronger dilution to wipe around problem areas. It's only effective until the area gets wet again through rain or washing with a different product. I normally get it in Padilla Spar in Corralejo but they also stock it in Saveedra in Puerto. Make sure the area is well ventilated until the product has dried.
I think most of the larger Spar,s stock it certainly Rosario and Caleta do.

Been there, done that, they still get in, even container within container

As have we, but a couple of months ago we bought new ones from Rocosa, and have not had a problem since.
Just been to the Spar at Atlantico.
I couldn't find the Ceradi , but I did get the Desic .
I've just done all the wall and floor tiles along with all the cupboards that can't come into direct contact with food.
Fingers crossed .
Good luck!
On a note re dry foods - sometimes the mites are already in the packets of food when you buy them! I've opened a new bag of flour and found little moving black bits and there was no sign of damage to the bag. I took it back to the shop and they just shrugged and said 'normale'!
I agree with the comments about using quality sealable containers - the Chinese shop ones aren't worth the cents you pay for them. And, you need to seal all dry goods, rice, pasta, crisps, biscuits, cereal, sugar, teabags, packets of cuppa soups, crackers, dog biscuits - if the main wrapping has been opened, seal it properly, a clothes peg won't do it!

THEY'LL BE BACK
PS, Ceradi is just the name of the Company that distributes these products. They have dozens under the Ceradi name.

We've been ant-free for a couple of years now after a long war.
The ants travel behind the kitchen units so I found some gaps where the pipes pass through and squirted ant powder liberally through. Also aerosol insecticide.
They were after the silicone in window frames, so they all got powdered.
Any drain, crack in the garden wall, loose tile etc that I could find was powdered. Sinks, showers, anything.
Any dead insect is cleared away, grease drips from the barbie are wiped and squirted.
I think they've taken the hint and decided to attack the neighbours now.
Yesssssss.
At last, bought some Desic from Spar 4.75, diluted some put it in a spray bottle, sprayed everywhere around kitchen top/behind cupboards etc, result ant free for 4 days, yipee.
The bottle I bought had a dog on it but noticed it was on sale in Hipodino (Rotondas) without the dog on, same bottle same colour but no dog, is there 2 different kinds?, anyway it works.
Thanks to TamaraEnLaPlaya & Wild Rover
Hi Globetrotter, glad it seems to be working. The bottle I bought the other day was 'dogless' as well - it may be because you are meant to allow floors to totally dry and ventilate rooms before allowing pets into the house again, so they've decided to remove the 'pet friendly' labelling.
Hi checked when I was out last week and it is Desic. And still no Ants 6 weeks after last use.
