I seem to recall, they required our passports only when we first arrived, along with the lease on the property we were then renting, I assume that was proof of address? A word of advice check which account you need, as if you are a resident there are accounts that are free of bank charges, and if you are opening a joint account they will ask how many bank cards you want, but unlike the UK they charge about â,¬25 a year for the second one.

We did it at the Atlantico branch before we had NIE no's  with just our UK passports and I think driving licence, all done in under 45 minutes 😀😀

You will also need to pay some money into your account when you open so take your uk debit card with you
