I have noticed over the years that the mozzies are getting worse on the island, or at least they have manged to find out where we hang about at night lol.
But seriously what do you guys and gals use to reduce or preferably stop the blighters from making you into a dot to dot artwork on your body/legs ?
Mrs does the spraying half a can just as we get into bed and again during the night, which of course chokes us to near death and can't be good for the old lungs etc. The local supermarket sales of this stuff must be going through the roof when were there.
So what non aerosol spray is best? and what is most successful for you ?
Get rid of any stagnant water in the area.
The liquid plugin mossie appliances from any supermarket seems to keep the mossies away from us.
Obviously, shut windows also; get mossie screens if you need to leave them open overnight.
I don't allow any sprays in our house - creates persistent cough that lasts for months. So, yes, your lungs are been eating away, lol.
Use what the SAS use. Been using Avon skin so soft for years and I`m a mossie magnet. Since using it when I apply it I have had no bites.

Make sure you get the original one Skin So Soft Original Dry Oil Spray (special offer at Avon at moment.
Can also get it on ebay or amazon.
Kenny, make sure there are no plants or shrubs in the area, if they are potted, move them as far away as possible.
Also when you go out to restaurant's and bars if you are sitting outside keep away from the plants.
We use the plug in mossie devices that you get in the Spar or Mercadona with the screw in bottle of whatever it is, we also buy the citronella candles in the Chinese and have them burning in in little holders on the tables etc.
Good advice I got travelling to India a few years ago was to only buy lemon or citrus flavoured shampoo and shower gel.
The other one I heard was to eat lots of garlic now I know it keeps vampires away but I don't know about the mossies.
As a diabetic I have to get regular vitamin B12 injections and apparently the mossies don't like vitamin B, probably explains why I don't get too many bites, so you could always start taking a vitamin B complex for a month before you travel and keep taking it while you are out there.
Happy holidays my old friend 8)
I use Boots Soltan sun protection during the day, various factors available, insect repellent included.
In the evening I use Incognito products, bought from Holland & Barrett or on the internet, which include natural insect repellents, if we are going to be outside.
Mossie screens on all windows and exterior doors, which we use religiously, not just at night, so as to keep out flies as well during the day.
With grey/black (pozo negro!) water systems a common feature here you are never going to get rid of all stagnant water - not everyone pumps their system out everyday to keep it from becoming stagnant.
It is surprising how quickly a swimming pool can turn stagnant and turn into a breeding ground if the pump packs up - only need one pool in an area to go bad ..........
The number of water leaks from the mains pipes across the countryside is still beyond belief and they can often create numerous pools which remain long after the leak is repaired.
I've also seen a number of remote barrancos with stagnant water, even at this time of year, and as for the 'reservoir' on the way to Los Molinos ............
I don't think we'll ever be rid of the pesky things here but religiously applying lotions and potions and using common sense should prevent more than a very occasional bite. Keep an After Bite pen handy at all times and apply immediately if bitten - works very well.

I blame Noah, if he had left the flies of the Ark we would not have a problem :D :D
Thanks for all the replies Folks, I shall be trying most. Not all at once mind you.
Can: Doesn't Guinness work? lol
It does for me

The only thing that really works is a repellent with min. 40 - 50 % DEET (diethyltoluamide).

I ditto this !!

Only if you had had about 10-12 pints the night before Kenny, then it's likely to keep everything and everyone away. :o :o :o
Lol Can if I drunk that much I would even feel a Rottweiler bite me

Re the Vitamin B. I love Marmite which is packed with B vitamins, on a recent 5 week European trip, we ran out of Marmite half way through the trip (bad planning on my part) within days I was getting bitten to buggery. Not a bite whilst I was on the Marmite.
Agree with the Avon Skin So Soft dry oil spray but it must be the 'original' one. I used it over the last 3 weeks at night and the only time I got bitten was when I didn't put it on one night. Also used the Boots Soltan Insect repellent sun creams for protection during the day as the beach can sometimes have little midges and flies which give a nasty bite similar to a mozzie bite. The sun creams smell a lot more pleasant than they used to when Boots first brought out the range.
:D
Never mind the Mozzies ( not really had many ). It's the FLIES that are doing my head in. We've been attacked by swarms of them for about a week now. We've gone through about 6 rolls of sticky fly catchers from the Chinese shop.

If you are bothered by Mozzies, you can buy impregnated plastic bracelets which last all day and you can wear them in bed. Mozzies won't come near you. Buy them in Mercadona or Spar. My wife swears by them. Sprays sprays and creams are useless.
We had the bracelets on whilst in Mexico and they lasted all week, never got bothered.
Thanks for all the advise Woe/everyone.
I bought two plug ins for the bedroom and never even saw one.
Typical eh lol
Are there any local products similar to Soltan, which are 2 in 1 products? Thanks
