As I understand from reading the article, they make a small charge to guarantee that if there is no space in the cabin if you pay you are guaranteed to keep it in the cabin. Just checked their website and hand luggage of 10kgs still included free of charge. Typical Daily Mail tripe

Hand luggage is still free, but they won't guarantee you can take it in to the cabin unless you pay extra. So not exactly tripe.
