Shame, don't like to see anyone's dream go up in smoke. I honestly and sincerely don't like saying this but it was always a none starter in Add to dictionary, the streets are not logistically laid out for such an enterprise it made no sense.

You are of course right about the logistics being wrong, none the less it is sad.

Saying that, they might have pulled it off if they had of submitted plans for the business  missing out the main drag i.e. start off around the Campanario on the Flintstones road and then up to the main road taking a route down to the old town and harbour. Once you become part of the scenery take the odd excursion down the main drag to gradually get the locals used to it, just a thought.

We didn't need to submit a planned route, it can go on any of the roads in Europe, that's not the issue. When you have the wally trolley going up and down the high street which is about 15 mtrs long at a guess the beer bike is 5 mtrs long no wider than a car and the length of a standard van the roads are suitable especially the high street which is extremely slow because of all the pedestrian crossings. The ayuntamiento have intimated that they would put it out to tender. So they obviously have no problem with it being on the street.

Esty

Are you saying they refused you permission to operate, but would now put it out to tender?? I would assume if that was the case, you would be the only people able to tender for it as you have the only vehicle, or does it have to be a Spaniard? ::)

I didn't say you need to submit a planned route, what I implied was if I had applied for a licence or permission to have a Beer Bike I would have informed the powers to be that it would operate on the wider less busy roads, not the main drag. I would have also tried to bribe the person who gives the licence or permission as is the way of the Spaniards. It is pointless trying to adapt your British morals to the Spanish system, ask Ian of the Catamaran Fame how he managed to get a berth in Corralejo harbour. I would have also had a Spaniard front the business from the start, preferably a local, being honest and above board got you were you are, nowhere. Solicitors are the biggest crooks of all in any western society, they will string you along with any excuse, don't pussy foot around with the law.

Are you saying Ian had to pay a bribe to get the berth, i know Ian well and he had to work hard to do everything by the book, i have or did have a berth for our boat but we we did not pay anyone to get it, not for one moment am i saying there is no corruption but not everyone is bent, also the boys with the beer bike attempted to do everything by the book,

Ian is the most generous, hard working, honest nice guy you could ever hope to meet, I had a great deal of time for Ian, hope I didn't infer any different, unfortunately the Spanish he dealt with were not of that persuasion, maybe it was an extra or over payment he had to make, not a bribe, my mistake and I sincerely apologise to Ian and anyone who knows him for inferring otherwise.

You are a much better person than me Malabu, I know if I had invested a few hundred thousand pounds in setting up a business and it took an extra unexpected payment to get over the line to a Spanish official, I wouldn't think twice, not in Fuerteventura. That's just me, a bad person living on the edge, I need saving.

I'm signing off now for a couple of months, off on my travels.
