What's the food like?
Not seen it open yet. Can't believe they didn't build the new one first, before demolishing the old one. Loss of business for, what, 18 months? Agree it could look better but will no doubt have more character when furnished inside and out.
Looks fine. Hope it's a success.

You or the restaurant?
:D
The wall decorations are up, but there are no tables and chairs in it at the moment, and the bar needs setting up.
OK guys I drove around Caleta this Morning looking for a friends apartment, which I found, but did not see this place, can someone give me a clue as to where it is?

On the beach over near the Gerriones Apartments, head over towards the Camels.

Fish Restaurant? Doesn't look like a fish to me :D
I don't know, I actually think it looks alright, I guess though if you remember the old place and frequented it then you might struggle to appreciate the new building a bit more.
It is a new building with a new kitchen which should make it easier to produce better food and a location right on the fabulous new beach. It will be so busy when it opens it will be untrue.
Is that the same as the "old white little place" in the roughly the same spot?
Yes, it is. The old building was compulsory purchased so the promenade could be completed. The new building has been back from where the old building was.
It's still not open.

The menu used to be very simple. Fresh fish that they caught that day with cooked with or without garlic and Canarian potatoes with Mojo. They used to go around with a platter and you could choose your fish. It was simple, very traditional, and delicious. I wonder if the menu has changed?. I think that a more Rustic type of building would have been better but would love to see what the inside is like.

Missed chance looks like a lego house, has very little character. For me it should have floor to ceiling windows or by-fold doors with a out door seating area and maybe a roof terrace. still the last place was made by the owner being a bit grumpy (well he was with me anyway). Is it him who has still got it?
Anyone have an update on this place?
I understand they were moving furniture is a couple of weeks ago and according to the Caleta de Fuste site it is now open, hope to try it when we go back out in August and will report back.
Up and running always busy when I go past in the day. Not eaten there yet but the food looks good with tables inside and out.

Most of the architecture in Fuerteventura is, concrete boxes, it just to blends in.
Not sure if the fish is good or not but one thing i do know is that expectations of restaurants in Fuerte are getting higher and higher. Could it be the Italian influence who stand for no nonsense?. Not only do punters expect value for money, the ambience has to add to the experience too. And why not?. If prices to the island are on the up due to the Middle East problems, people are entitled to expect value for their bucks. That looks like a wartime concrete bunker to me and wouldn't entice me in on looks alone. Recommendation is a different matter.

Maybe the expectations are getting higher, but I regret to say that the quality is getting lower.
I am now refering to the tourist trap feeding stations that you find in Corralejo on the main street, music square, cobble street etc.
It seems that the mentality is changing and that the visitors are no longer regarded as guests who need to be pampered,
but as walking wallets who are there for the plucking.
A sad development but one which could be expected, as one sees the same worldwide wherever tourist business is booming.
Maybe you use the wrong ones
Example: When I was holidaying on the West Coast of Florida a couple of years ago, almost every Restaurant served Sweet Potato Chips.
These a very high in nutrition, low in Starchy Carbs and double the Vitamin C of a normal potato, and so tasty. Also very cheap from Fran y Chemi Fruit & Veg Shop.
I've since found out that no Restaurants in Caleta do them, (so I'm told). The reason given is "tourists don't want to pay for anything fancy".
I love them and make my own, in fact, having them tonight with steak :P
Tip: Buy the elongated ones with the orangey red inside, not the round bulbous ones, they're white inside.

I refer to my previous comment - 'It doesn't look much like a fish to me'
Maybe the American novelty building style should be tried?

Architecture and sociology critics a'plenty. Food critics nary a one, it seems

All those are for the old place, we will probably give it a try this week, in Patio tonight, maybe Thurs or Friday.
Went to take a look last night, the pictures on here are of the front, from the Back/carpark, it lookslike a World war 2 bunker, but will try it and see.
OK went last night, to say that nothing has been done to make this place aesthetically pleasing inside or out is an understatement, it reminds me of those eat in chippies you could find all over the UK in the 50,s and 60,s { all Formica and plastic } utilitarian in the extreme.

Part of the outside seating area.
It opens from 12:00 until 16:00 and again from 18:00 to 22:30
There are about 40 covers outside and around 30/35 inside, while we were there from 19:15 until 20:25 about 30 people came and went.
They accept credit/debit cards.
There is no menu as with previous incarnation what is available is brought out on a large platter.
Last night there were around 12 varieties of fish available, Dorada, Sardines, Halibut, Octopus, Parrot fish and Sea Bass and a number of others, it is fair to say what was on the platter looked fairly tired, and you take it as read this is not the actual fish you are going to get, you are offered a first course, last night Fish soup or garlic prawns, we both went for No starter and Sea bass, which came with 3/4 boiled potatoes, a slice of tomato and green pepper, and a mix of onion and white cabbage. there appears to be no dessert menu, but Mrs Rgby saw vending machine inside which dispenses ice lollys and the Spanish version of Cornetto etc.
Summation
Service was OK no more or less what you would expect, polite, but not particularly swift, we sat out side at the front, and as you would expect you get a large number of people walking past, and it was a little windy, so would not sit there again, but that was our choice.
Asked for the bill and waited over 10 mins to then find you go to the counter to pay
along side the pay point there was a very large Paella pan covered with foil and cling film, which you have to assume is where they served that particular offering from, as we saw a couple served and they came on two separate plates, so would not chance ordering that.
Was the food good? no it was better than that, it was excellent.
Would we go again? without a shadow of a doubt.
Would we recommend it? yes obviously.
Price
The meal came with the normal Bread and dips, the bread was good and the dips well made,Two Sea bass a red wine and a bottle of water. â,¬32 we were offered a brandy on the house, but declined, for no other reason than Madam does not drink brandy even good stuff, and I will not drink and drive.
It seems a case of “don`t judge a book by it`s cover†as it is an uninspired sight. Thanks for the pics and review. :)
Yes good review Johnrgby. Need a few more like that.
Yes, good review, thanks. You need to copy it all over to the Bar and Restaurant section for posterity!

Had not thought of that Tam ::)
Glad that the quality has carried over to the new restaurant, look forward to trying it myself in August.
Just don't have the Paella. There's only one Authentic Paella, and that's in Pozo Negro.

To be honest Woe it does not look appetising in the pan it is cooked in, and a couple of plates went past to a table behind us that did not look good.

Is that in Los Pescadores woe? Haven't been yet. Do they do Paella with only seafood and no meat?
