Translation, using Google "As we have learned, the Canary Islands Government has set a date for the closure of the Corralejo Dune Road, to be more exact in 2018. This decision has been taken without taking into account the needs of the residents of Parque Holandés and La Caleta, that we would remain in isolation. At the time, the former President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Paulino Rivero, pledged to meet the requests of the neighbors, building a link between Parque Holandés and the North-South axis. We understand that the construction of a motorway should have planned its link with nearby populations to avoid their isolation. To date, this access is not expected to be executed. It would be crazy to close the old FV-1 and leave the neighbors isolated. And what about the impact that this closure could have on tourism. How will we go to our beaches? Will they privatize some kind of alternative transportation to make cash? Do not forget that the landscape of this road is unique in the world. We hope that this Government will listen to its people once and for all."
Hmmm... so is there a new road leading to Corralejo?
What exactly do they mean closure of the road? I always assumed it ment that through traffic would be stopped probably by a gate across the road probably near the roundabout by PH.
As usual, everything seems to be kept secret about plans here. Just wish they would publish what is happening to the road so if petitions etc are required, then people can air their views. However, seems to be a different Chinese whisper each day about what is happening about the dune road.
Politicians here treat the people they are suppose to represent as mushrooms in the dark.
Close the dunes road to who?. Commercial vehicles or tourists. If it's tourists blocked from the dunes it's madness. If it's commercial how are the dunes hotels to be serviced?
;D Cant wait for the photos to appear in the international press. Coaches pull up at PH roundabout, discharge 50 odd holidaymakers, and they then drag/carry their suitcases along the dunes road to the Rui hotel to check in. :-\ From the other direction, the surf schools issue their students their boards around the Campanario, and they all troop along to Flag beach or drop down beach, (and the very best of luck if you want to Kite surf :-X) I envisage a Quad bike boom to make a killing, servicing the Hotels and beaches "off road"
Mind you, should any us be surprised, we are living in Fuerteventura after all 8)
It just beggars belief, doesn't it? Travelling on the new road from Corralejo to Caleta, as we do each week, knocks 15 minutes off the previous trip down the FV1. Once the south-to-north side is opened, it would be reasonable to assume that the new road would be the prefered route for non-tourist traffic. If they make the old road a bit less 'desirable' by imposing a lower speed restriction, the new road would be even more attractive....!
I am sure some of you have better memories than me but... I thought that the original reason put forward for the road, and the agreed EU finance involved the
protection of wildlife in the Natural Park.
Once completed the old FV1 was to be closed to traffic from PH to the hotels and
"Returned to nature " Access to the hotels & their beaches would be closed off
after the second roundabout by the hotels.
I think the petition is about 10 years too late.

and read the post by Tamara En La Playa which gives a translation of the recent application from the Cabildo to the Canary Islands Government to not close the road.
I am curious about the origin of this road, does anyone know when it was built. It seems unlikely to have been an existing path or track through the sand so I guess it is not very old.
I have to agree with comments about closing the road to tourist traffic when it leads to one of the islands major attractions. It is approx. 2km from the edge of Corralejo to the 2nd RIU hotel island and a further 4.5km to drop beach which is as far as access to beaches needs to go.
even though it is costly to maintain the road and satisfy the environmental concerns it must surely be in the interests of the island to allow access.
Sometimes when I drive to Corralejo from Caleta, I like to stop at the dunes for 10 minutes to admire the view, sometimes I don't.
If I was definitely driving straight through to Corralejo, then I would take the new road.
It should be my choice, I've paid enough taxes for the up-keep of it..
In the early 80's we stayed at Estrella Del Mar in Corralejo. The road out of Corralejo only went as far as Tres Vistas. From there it was a dirt track. I used to run to the two hotels every morning a rarely saw even a bike.I remember a camper van parked on the road side, about half way along, with a dog tied up outside. We came over by the old ferry so don't know what the road was like passed the hotels.
