Title: ANTS
Post by: the dean on March 10, 2017, 15:19:54 PM
Hi All,

My Family tell me that ants have appeared in a press that contains dry foods ( cereals/biscuits/crisps etc.

I am afraid that I cannot describe the ants as I'm not there at present. I have to assume that since there is a young child present, that from time to time, there may be open items in the press or counter for short term use.

Can anyone tell me if there is/are any products that might help and where to get it/them. obviously due to the proximity of food, the choice of products may be severely limited.

Thanks in advance.

The Dean.

I use a product called Nippon. The ants take this back to nest and feed it to queen, the nest dies out eventually. Ironically, just put some outside on patio, as loads of ants been appearing recently due to the high temperatures here now, and climb onto sunbeds when we are in garden. This is a useful product for you as you are having ants near food products and you would not want to be spraying or putting powder down. You put a few drops of the liquid down, the ants are attracted to it and as its sweet take it to nest.

It used to be widely available in the UK in stores like Wilkensons or most other hardware shops in the UK. However it seems more difficult to find now and I had to get it from Amazon ((UK). I have certainly not seen it on the island. So you would either have to bring it out or get someone to bring it out for you. Of course someone may have another solution for you.

Can understand your concerns as they are in the kitchen.  Here's a site with some "natural" remedies which may work, but worth trying to find their entry points, which if not near the work surfaces you could spray some normal chemical insect spray.

I got desic on my last visit on recommendations on here. Smell is not good but if it works, all good. Not been back out yet to see the results but a number of people on here give it a good review

the little tiny chaps whose parents weren't married when they were born come in from light switches and sockets , wipe around them CAREFULLY

Thanks MandK

I've been over for a few days and noticed them , never seen ants before in apartment.

I figured out where they come in from and your right electrical sockets .

Off to Chinese shop later for some food for them , haha
