Title: Bolt through sliding doors.
Post by: Kyle on January 17, 2017, 16:22:17 PM
Hi,

I'm looking for someone who will be able to install a bolt that goes through sliding doors when closed, meaning they cannot be opened unless the bolt is loosened. Or, is it something that's easy to do yourself?

TIA

Kyle

Hi Kyle,
We had a set of sliding doors that had a handle on the upright in the middle of the pair of doors. It had a push button on it that when depressed pushed a bolt into the frame of the other door. I think this is the kind of thing you are talking about. Can't say I have seen them on sale but imagine one of the pvc window guys would have them, maybe even Ideal on the industrial/retail area in PDR. Hope this helps . . Ron

It's actually quite straight forward to do if you have a good drill.

Hi Kyle,

They are fairly easy to fit yourself, if you are that way inclined. Depends on the design and material the sliding doors are made of ,but here are a few examples:

https://www.bunnings.com.au/our-range/building-hardware/door-window-gate-hardware/door-security/door-bolts

http://swiftng.co/patio-sliding-door-lock/patio-door-patio-door-electronic-lock/

I have aluminium patio doors and the centre bolt is great for daily use. By pushing on the button the two doors are locked together. When we are away for a longer period we also use side bolts which go into the bottom or top track. These are also good for securing any secondary sliding louvered doors if you have them.

Good luck.

Dave

If you drill the slider door, just make sure you don't drill through the truck/rollers, else it won't open freely again... ;)

here's a cheap and easy way ! ....when your door's a closed, measure from the back of the door to the frame and get a piece of a sturdy bit of timber and cut it very slitely longer, then just "trap" it at the bottom between door and frame .....simple ! ......you could if you want repeat the same at the top.
