Thinking of bringing a car over from the UK and not too worried about the process which I can see is not straightforward.
The problem I am having is lack of info on road tax and insurance and would like to know what is the likely minimum and maximum cost for each and what does it depend on such as emmisions, engine size, bhp, value etc.
Does anyone have any info or examples particularly with something more powerful please so that I can decide on what to bring?

we are currently in the process of importing our vehicle from the UK and can thoroughly recommend an English translator Jo Bowker. She has assisted us with all aspects of starting life on the Island and has a great knowledge of everything from cars to Wills and NIE's etc. if interested i can PM her details to you?

I have a 1600 cc Opel Astra, more than big enough for us over here, Insurance with â,¬250 excess is â,¬380 tax is â,¬40 annually, I had a 2 litre Peugeot 508 in the UK insurance for that was £420.00 both wit Direct Line }Linea direct } over here, I believe tax is dependant on cc as obviously is Insurance, bottom line is Insurance is going to be similar or slightly more, but tax considerably cheaper .
And dont forget you cannot register a RHD commercial/goods vehicle there, some 4x4 are classed as such, check out beforehand as people have been caught out with this, hence you will see adverts for such vehicles for sale advertised as (need a car to drive back to the UK) :D :D
On insurance you will need a copy of your no claims statement,you probably will find that insurance is cheaper here.My insurance had a multi choice of excess so this effects the premium ,it also covers anyone older than 25 years as long as they have been driving for two years along with recovery to a garage if it breaks down or is involved in an incident I use Liberty Sergos there are plenty of people offering this company

I am mostly trying to establish if the cost difference between insuring and taxing a performance car and a regular car is large or minimal.
For example if the road tax increased from â,¬40 on a regular car to only â,¬60 on a performace car then it would not be worh worring about.
It may be worth establishing if the vehicle that you are considering bringing over can be matriculated here before looking at local road tax and insurance? Just a thought. If it can't be re-plated to Spanish plates then it would not be possible to pay road tax here. If the vehicle is to remain here then you would have to matriculate soon after its arrival (timescale dependent upon whether you have residency here or just hold an NIE number)...
if like me, it would be well worth buying a car here, it would save an awful lot of Spanish "red tape" and messing about, and as said above you would need a permenant address, N.I.E. etc.
Aside from what's already been said, you also need to seriously consider the safety implications of driving a RHD car on the 'wrong' side of the road :o

We offer up to date information and look at all aspects BEFORE you make the costly decision of either driving or shipping it over... if it ain't worth it we tell you before you put your hand in your pocket...
