Has any one a rough idea of the charge to see a private consultant on The Island, I may need a small graft on my leg, but am getting nowhere with The Medical centre.
From my experience, it's 80â,¬ for the first visit and the follow up appointments are free. It might be different if you go to Parque Hospital or CEM.
That would be for a dermatologist, would it? I see one in Corralejo each year who charges â,¬50 for the consultation. If there's a small operation to be done (often, for me :() then that costs about another â,¬150 (from memory). Then the stitches get taken out "for free" :). But costs would no doubt vary depending on what needs to be done. My dermatologist is a German guy, Dr Kuner. He's at Kerstin Werner's place in Corralejo on Tuesday mornings and more often in Caleta at a place just behind McDonalds and also at Costa Calma, I believe. He even goes over to Lanzarote regularly - busy man!
Sheila - -without getting to personal - for possible future reference - Is the dermatologist for skin complaints or for moles - of both as in uk it's usually doctor first call - is it the same here for mole type issues or would you go straight to dermatologist?
I have also seen Dr Kuner in Calleta on a couple of occasions for skin problems. His charges differ depending what the problem is and if he has to send it off to
Germany for a biopsy. Originally my appointment was made through the surgery but since then I phone him direct for an appointment. I have found him very good and extremely knowledgable. I have had skin cancers removed in the UK previously and therefore know a little bit about it. I have every confidence in him.

My problem is slightly different as in I have an ulcer on my calf circa 7cm x 7cm which I have had for some considerable time, but it refuses to heal, I think to graft it is the only option.
I think you will find that Dr Kuner will sort it out whatever problem you have on your skin. I know other people as well as myself who have gone to him for various skin problems and been very satisfied.

If it is this clinic people are recommending then yes they do speak English fluently

I unfortunately nicked the end off my finger on the last night of out July trip and went to the medical centre mentioned above and saw Dr Theaker who was great, I think most of the staff speak English. It is private clinic so EHIC cards are not accepted but if you have private cover no problem.
Just adding to the previous couple of postings, I'd thoroughly recommend this particular doctors' practice, in Caleta. I've had two or three occasions to need medical help over the past couple of years, and Dr Theaker has been superb. Not only English-speaking (she is English), but they have facilities most Uk doctors can only dream of! Private, yes, but even if I were in the U.K. I'd rather pay to be seen urgently and at a time that suits me than join the (long) queue! Good luck getting the problem resolved!
