Title: Chinese buffet in Corralejo ? Beware !
Post by: Karl Pilkington on August 08, 2016, 23:39:25 PM
Thought we'd have a Chinese buffet after a long day out at Oasis park today and a friend recommended " Slow Boat " !
Please be aware that there are two Chinese Buffets in Corralejo operating under similar names :'(.
Just my luck I picked the wrong one " new SLOW BOAT "  Arrrghhhh !
I fell out with the street rep as soon as I went for my starter ! NO DUCK AND FIVE SPRING ROLLS GLUED TOGETHER. His response ! Free round of drinks, glued up pancakes and dips delivered to our table and three tablespoons of lumpy duck refreshed to the buffet.
Smell the rat people ! (At this point I wanted to walk but other half persuaded me to stay).

The buffet was hiss poor lukewarm dishwasher soup and low temperature gloop ! (Hope you're getting the experience)

Long story short and a moan call to so called friend Ricky it seems I should have gone to "Slow Boat II"

Yours in moaning

Karl

I tried a Chinese buffet in Corralejo a couple of years back, the place has since closed. Food was ok, but when my beer arrived it wasn't cold. Didn't complain about it though and just got on with my meal. When I then went up to the bar area I found them using part glasses of beer left by customers, just topping them up with beer from the pump to resell to the next customers!!!! Never went back.

Slow boat to up in the Square has always been excellent when we have eaten their.
Clean, quality food and the service top notch.

Is this not the story of these so called all you can eat Chinese Buffet all over the world, with the possible exception of the U.S. when we lived in the U.K. there was one in the town called the New China, it change ownership about 4 times in 3 years, and changed premises twice, a Chinese guy that worked for me at the time would not go near it.

I don't really understand. You were using the buffet, were you, not ordering from the menu? In that case, why on earth did you choose something that was clearly poor quality? If there's a real quality issue not visible (e.g. taste) then you can just leave it and choose a replacement. And if there was one thing unavailable why could you not just choose one of the umpteen other things? Even the soup comes in two forms and the hot and sour is normally anything other than tasteless - it's normally quite fiery.

You'll find small imperfections in every one of these buffets,  but you could have eaten well in either buffet. We've eaten out in Corralejo twice a week for over four years and we use both for a non-special meal. Never had to complain in either although not everything is perfect every time.

Fair point Sheila - is that not the way with buffets. if you don't like it move on and have something else.

I spoke to Mr Whoflungsit at the Showboat I restaurant last night and he wanted to pass this message onto Karl Picton

I am velly, velly solly for you not being appy with my slop, Lady Sheilalaw, she eat here when roughing it, you know, not special time, she has granted a royal charter so we try harder next time, rumours about missing feral pussys are all lies, I found one last night, velly nice.

Any chinese buffet is like RyanAir: you pay nothing, so expect nothing.
But RyanAir got you here, and Slowboat filled your belly.
And you saved money to buy more cheap beer.

Had you read the original post correctly, you would have realised they went into the wrong Slow boat, and it was nothing to do with saving money or cheap beer

Chop sticks out 😅 Think you are referring to tinda Centre - the cheaper red carpet one?  Never had a problem there.  If they are out of particular dish just ask them to refill it - always found them very obliging.  Okay things do cool in the buffets but give each dish a stir b4 you serve yourself or pop in the microwave for a minute.  Spring rolls are fried and have never seen them stuck together.  Though have seen the sushi rolls at the one opposite 7 pints stuck together but that's cos I assume the rice papers have been steamed and then when rolled out and put next to another one they stick to each other.  Both are great places to eat.  My only complaint is that you seem to have to wait for your tapanyaki by 7 pints whereas the other one brings to your table once cooked - but that is minor whinge.
