Title: Extra days in Fuerte.
Post by: Digger Dave on March 27, 2016, 09:46:37 AM
Can`t see it`s been mentioned on here but alot of people had a few days extra in Fuerte after the French ATC strike on Sunday and Monday. My personal story is that I got a text in the early hours of Monday from Ryanair saying my 6.30pm flight was cancelled. I had an early breakfast at the Elba Carlota and travelled to the airport. A fter spending 7 hours in a queue to get flight and hotels, I was told to go to a bus at the bus park. I then waited 4 hours on there until the bus was full to go and we were transferred to the Melia Gorriones in Costa Calma where we spent 3 night in 4 star B n B. Overall a nerve wracking experience but we managed to enjoy some of the time there.
We were told to make our own way to the airport which we did by number 5 and number 10 buses. We eventually flew home to Liverpool on Thursday and drove to Birmingham on Friday in my van to pick up the car. .
There was also a Stansted flight which people also flew back to Liverpool and stayed over night and then made their way to Stansted via London . How they did it I don`t know as the trains through B`Ham and Crewe are a nightmare over Easter. Anyhow I`m back over here in 4 weeks but my wife doesn`t want to come  :(

Wow, I hadn't realised that some people were so badly affected by the French ATC strike. Our visitors were stuck on the tarmac at East Midlands for two hours early Sunday morning ahead of their eventual flight, and we thought that was bad enough! Mind you, they had delayed their departure to watch the rugby in Cardiff so had to fly into Lanzarote and travel down by bus and boat...

Glad you at least got some extra holiday out of it, hope it doesn't put you or the family off the island longer term....although I guess the perennial ****French strikes affect lots of destinations!

We could have done with three extra days in Febuary when it lashed it down with rain.  Been coming to Fuerty for 20 years and in all that time it rained once. This time, it rained to some extent, every day for a week.
The Gorriones is nor a bad place to be stranded, it was our first ever Fuerty holiday

In December a number of flights were delayed for a week apparently due to bad weather in the  U.K.  Bet that didn't go down well with many employers  :D

As a bit of a PS. we were only charged 28 for the 4 extra days at Birmingham. Some people had rung up from Fuerte and were told that it would be 30 quid for each day. Ours was charged at the rate we already booked it at.
