Evening All,
Now I know the Town Of GT gets bad press but I just thought I would share a few thoughts.
1. Very Spanish - Unlike your typical Caleta's etc................ a good thing in my opinion.
2. Very Friendly
3. Some great restaurants ............ avoid Tapas Fuerteventura (terrible service and food). Make sure you visit Da Nonnas for an amazing steak or the fish restaurant in the car park (don't know the name !!) for the best fish dinner ever.
4. There is always something going on .......... fish festivals, carnivals, clown parades........ need I say more.
5. Womad - Best festival experience ever in November and we will be back.
All in all I am just sticking up for a Town that I quite like. I look forward to the usual negative posters on this forum ripping me to shreds.
Regards
Along with, I suspect, many on this forum I agree that Gran Tarajal is indeed a fine town, offering features and activities quite different from other more commonly visited places. I don't know about the need to 'stand up for it', as I don't recall having seen it adversely critiqued here - certainly not recently - on the contrary I recall a number of rather positive comments about the town and surrounding area. One of the joys of Fuerteventura is the diversity of places to visit and experience, something for everyone.
You end by anticipating "the usual negative posters on this forum ripping me to shreds"....perhaps rubbishing "the typical Caletas etc" at the start of your posting is not the most mature way of avoiding that?!
Really strange...never had a negative experience in Tapaventura. Service and food always excellent when we pop in for lunch
Agree Firefly999........100%

Well, Someone300, I see you're a newbie with 2 posts, so welcome to the forum.
Perhaps you'd better give us a link to the negative posts ripping you to shreds, as you put it; I presume you must mean during your first post.
I didn't realise that GT got a bad press, I've only ever seen good reviews and comment and personally, we love the place. As you say, it's possibly the most Spanish of the FV seaside towns and that gives it a special charm that the artificial tourist transplants can never have.
The seafood place at the fish quay/fridge plant is Cofradia de los Pescadores and is, as you say, excellent with over 80 species of fish on the menu and some very good Canarian wines to go with them. I must confess we don't use tapas bars so I can't comment.
WOMAD is great and the authentic cultural Canarian festivals with petanque (I think that's how it's spelled) and parades are entertaining. But you wouldn't want to live along the seafront when the 'funfair' is in town. Then the ground fairly trembles with boom-box muzac, but that's only on fiesta evenings.
A GREAT Mexican restaurant on the paseo. Their quesadillas are to die for. Cheap as well! Good menu del dia in a small bar in the square behind the post office (now moved back from the harbour). Good 24/7 emergency room at the health centre. Best cafe con leche in Padilla. The prices in the shops will shock you, I.e. one liter strawberry milk shake in Hiperdino; Caleta 1.43, GT 0.83. Can't think why? Not a great place to live though, no English bars, no one even speaks English, shops all close from 1 to 5 (except the two big supermarkets), no hotels or apartment complexes for AI guests, so uncivilized darling, the place is full of bloody Majoraro farmers!
The Mexican, Mira Vos, does the best Chimichangas ever.
Best keep it a secret Woe, it was packed tonight!
