Title: Book on Fuerteventura's past
Post by: duncolm on December 09, 2015, 12:18:48 PM
For anyone interested in learning more about Fuerteventura, John Mercer's academic study from 1973, CANARY ISLANDS: FUERTEVENTURA, is very good but difficult to get hold of.
I already have a copy, but while I was looking for something else this morning I noticed that there's one available on eBay UK (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercer-John-CANARY-ISLANDS-FUERTEVENTURA-1973-Hardback-BOOK-/111844951912).
No connection with the seller, just mentioning it in case anyone fancies it.

Having read duncolms recommendation I tracked a copy down on Amazon, and it finally arrived yesterday. I have to say, what a fascinating read it is! Published in 1973, it may as well be 1873 for the picture it paints....hard to believe the island it describes was just over 40 years ago! Anyway, big thanks to duncolm for recommending it, and apart from the curiosity of its predating tourism and running water (!), it's also hugely informative about the geography, geology, climate, history etc...well worth getting hold of!

Hi OMR
I'm about halfway through reading my copy, you can borrow it when I'm finished if you haven't been able to track down another copy.

Appy, the only rock scene in Caleta in 1973 was Chipmunk Mountain..  Even when we first came over early 90s it was mainly waste ground  ;D (Stayed at Villa Florida, t'was wasteground where old Legends was and can remember them building Caleta Gardens )

Would anyone be interested in the other one?
