Investigation ordered after tourists left stranded at night on remote beach
A group of almost thirty tourists stranded in darkness on a remote Gran Canaria beach when their boat failed to collect them after a day trip had to be rescued by the emergency services after they sent out an SOS.
Gran Canaria - 06.10.2015 - According to the Canarias 7 newspaper, the party spent Sunday on an excursion organised from Puerto Rico in Mogán and ending on the picturesque Güigüi Beach, which nestles among steep cliffs. After a day of exertion, the tourists were due to be picked up by boat from the secluded spot but the hours went by and no-one appeared by the time night fell. A call to the emergency services sparked an operation involving the Red Cross and Gran Canaria's Sea Rescue Service, which sent a total of small boats to pick the distressed party. They were eventually brought back to Puerto Rico after midnight and, according to the paper - which cited Red Cross sources - although a person from the excursion organisers was there to meet them with an explanation for the incident, they opted to file a formal complaint with the Civil Guard.
