We live in a detached bungalow, without airconditioning, in a quiet part of Corralejo.
In the eveninsg we open all doors and windows to get the inside temperture down to 27C !
But when we go to bed we only dare to leave (sliding) doors and windows ajar with a safety catch resulting in a restless night.
It seems to me that these very warm nights, when a lot of people leave everything wide open, are a crooks dream!
What do you do?
Fit an air con unit
We leave our windows and doors open all night. 2 big Bardino dogs keep us safe 8)
we bought 3 machines from ideal its similar to air con but so much cheaper to run it takes cold water and ice blows out cold air. on hot nights they are working all night we are cool all night and we use them in the day perfect
Me and the bird I was with at the time got robbed leaving the window ajar, feckers gassed us in our sleep then helped themselves to wallet, valuables etc, you never think its gonna happen to you, until it actually does.
If your too tight to afford security/aircon then my advice is just to get naked.

Security doen't stop a hit and run crook.
Getting naked is no option because we only get dressed when we go into town.
We will have airconditioners put into the bedrooms but that isn't going to help tonight.
Was just curious about how people cope with the problem.
Can you not get metal shutters fitted to the bedroom, I know when we stayed at the barcello beach resort they had metal shutters that you closed and locked from the inside, enabling us to leave the windows open during the night, the only intruders being insects...

We just have to sweat it out until it cools down. Tonight will be horrendous.

When in similar situations (no a.c. or poor security), we wet a towel and lay it on us, then use a fan to create a breeze over the wet towel, that usually works.
I think, as well as the "Winter Fuel Allowance", us Pensioners Abroad, should also receive a "Summer Fuel Allowance", so that we can run an Air Conditioner all night :o
I leave the sliding door ajar, with a length of wood dropped into the bottom of the frame to stop the door being opened wide enough to walk through.
Old technology works every time.
We have shutters on doors and windows on outside with locks and leave the windows inside open in the rooms that we are in. We close them down a bit in the daytime to stop direct sunlight coming in which keeps house cooler and allows a breeze through in the night.
